Today we’d like to introduce you to Katrina Wright.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Katrina. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
We started with a herd of alpaca that was left in a field to die. We stepped in and got them off this property and brought them to our family property. In which we managed to save 10 of the 12 alpacas. From there we realized the need for a farm animal rescue and started to build on that. We discussed everything that needs a place that other animal rescues would not take. I started to spend more and more time with the animals and saw that each has a special purpose. We soon launched a farm therapy animal program!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Nothing about farm animal rescue is a smooth road. We hadn’t applied for our nonprofit statutes so I was working two full-time jobs sometimes three to make sure I could feed them all and provide vet care they needed. The physical amount of work made me crash and want to give up; But with the support of my family and peachy farm followers, we were able to get threw it. When we weren’t worried about the money we are worried about space and out special animals that needs more medical help. The hardest part is watching an animal that is fighting so hard to live not to win the battle.
Tell us more about your company.
We are a multi-purpose company. We rescue farm animals and try to place them in the best safe home. We also train farm animals for therapy animals. Then we go into nursing homes, assisted living homes, special education centers, libraries, and schools. This also allows us to do educational programs why we are there. Finally, we offer petting zoos with our rescues and that funding goes to the rescue!
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I have always been lucky to have help when I need it whether it is friends, family, followers or other business to help us get threw the good and the bad times! We have had the pleasure of teaming up with Petite Sheep and Golden Goat farm and Territory Rabbitry to help us with having the best-trained animals we can; along with an amazing variety. So no matter what the rescue has we always have animals for the therapy visits.
