Today we’d like to introduce you to Aidan Janeiro.
Aidan, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started learning how to make hairpieces at the age of 14. I decided I wasn’t going to flat iron my curls and wanted a nice realistic hairpiece and spent my hard-earned babysitting money on my first ever hairpiece and it was an UTTER disaster! At that point, I decided I could learn how to make hairpieces for myself on my own. I spent a lot of time in the public library and read a lot of books. I was able to find a classicly trained perruquier (wigmaker in French) in Paris, France and emailed him every day until he decided he would take me on as a student and that is how my journey in the industry began.
He was generous enough to not only give me his time, but also free learning equipment. I would get on skype early in the mornings in Kansas and he would teach techniques and walk me through the many processes. Within months, I was able to create my own pieces and he was also assigning me some of his workload that fell under the “easy” category in order for me to gain additional experience.
During my junior year of high school, my childhood best friend ended up being diagnosed with a very aggressive form of leukemia and began to lose her hair due to chemotherapy. She ended up being my very first client. I made her hairpieces of all different colors, themes, and styles. This continued into our university years. During my sophomore year of university, she lost her battle with cancer and I ended up making her very last hairpiece for her. After that, I decided that I wasn’t going to make hairpieces anymore.
I ended up graduating with my bachelor’s degree in International Business from Wichita University and I immediately took an internship in Paris, France with Louis Vuitton. While I was there, I would still assist my Perruquier instructor with pieces, but my heart was not in it anymore. Eventually, I told him I needed a break from it all and stopped altogether with making hairpieces.
After my internship, I returned back to the States and decided I would focus on working in the corporate world within the human resources field. I wasn’t passionate about it but I liked it well enough. I ended up moving to Denver, Colorado in the Summer of 2018 to accept a position with a very prestigious payroll and benefits company. Everywhere I went I would get compliments on my hair. People would ask me if I went to so-and-so or if this person or that person did my hair and they would be surprised to learn that I did my hair myself and they would also inquire if I offered services.
After several inquiries, I decided I would try offering wig and hair extension services for a few months and I began to post my work on Instagram. My popularity grew very fast. I then decided I would pursue becoming licensed in the art and found a program in Atlanta, GA to take for six months. While doing that, I also found an old business plan my friend and I had drafted my freshman year of university and as I looked it over I realized that I could make this a reality. I was able to pitch it to an investor and was able to secure my very first round of funding for my vision and launched Beijo in February of 2019.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has most definitely not been a smooth road, but when is the journey to success ever been smooth when you’re trying to create something that is completely different from the current market trends?
I will be turning 22 in December and it’s been a rewarding and exciting (good and bad) journey. My honest advice and insight to all women my age who have unique ideas that they are trying to make a reality are for them to believe in themselves and surround themselves with other driven individuals (young and old). It will not be easy. When your friends see that you’re working and building something and that you’re not able to party or live it up as they are doing in their early 20’s, you will lose friends. When people don’t understand your vision, they will dismiss it or write you off (sometimes openly), but in the grand scheme of things, it’s important to understand that this is your dream, not theirs. You don’t need anyone to believe in you as long as you have a clear vision and you have written down a plan that you are progressively executing every single day… ANYTHING is possible.
Never compare yourself to anyone else and always have a sense of gratitude towards all things good and bad. The Universe has a wonderful way of creating equilibrium under the guise of chaos. As you lose things, you will gain the things you need in order to reach the next step in your business journey. You must persevere and remain focused and optimistic. It’s okay to have a bad day or two just don’t wallow and be proud of every accomplishment even the ones you think are small ones.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Beijo story. Tell us more about it.
I am by trade a licensed hairstylist with a business degree, LOL. However, I specialize in making hairpieces using the proper classical techniques of the art of wig making. I am known for providing the most realistic hair extension sewins and lace wig and lace frontal sew-ins in Colorado as well as making the best quality wigs for the patrons of my organization.
When we started the brand in February of 2019, we only had a couple of hundred followers. Now, we have almost ten thousand followers on Instagram alone. Whenever a celebrity visits Denver, Colorado they reach out to Beijo first for accommodations for hair services. That is something that I am very proud of. We try to make the patron experience one-of-a-kind for every single one of our patrons.
I am very proud to say that our patron list is very diverse. We have clients who are male and female that are in need of hair replacement alternatives. We service all hair types when it comes to the services we provide and we truly care about the state of the natural hair of our patrons. All of our hair care methods are holistic and we pride ourselves on that. We are the only company that classicly builds custom units as well as provide holistic hair care services that involve hair extensions and wigs.
We are very proud to say that we are an international brand and have clients from all over the world. Especially in Europe and South America. Our Attaché service has really taken off with the A-list musicians and celebrities in South America. We service a lot of A-list musician patrons in Brazil, where I am from, and have are beginning to get requests from Patrons in Europe and South Africa as well. At the moment, we are the only brand in Denver that provides International services and have international Patrons. Most of our patrons either fly in or provide travel accommodations for us when it comes to our services.
If you look at the work on our web site and our social media, that alone sets us apart from anyone within the Denver area as we provide the most realistic hairpiece installs in Denver.
