Meet Rebecca Harris of Happy Mouth Tooothpaste

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Harris.

Rebecca, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started Happy Mouth Toothpaste unintentionally out of my own necessity for natural, holistic oral healing. Twelve years ago I had my fourth child and found that my dental health was declining rapidly, in part due to my pregnancies, genetics, and what I was to discover was a greater factor, my reactions to traditional oral care, toothpastes and dental treatments.

After spending thousands of dollars on dental care and feeling less empowered and more discouraged I was fed up and motivated enough to take matters into my own hands. I was self-educated on health and holistic care for the body but found that there were not as many options available for over the counter holistic oral healing remedies. I was determined to study as much as I could about long-proven natural remedies for daily oral care as well as healing oral issues. After several years of research, testing and formulating, I developed my first toothpaste “Immunity Booster”, specifically designed to thoroughly clean the mouth as well as relieve mouth pain, and aid in healing infection and inflammation. I had no intention on marketing the toothpaste, my goal was to test it on myself and hopefully heal the issues I had been struggling with.

After just a few months I was able to remedy my mouth pain and was on my way to healing my gums and strengthening my enamel. It wasn’t until years later that I felt confident to market my toothpaste. I had years of research, testing and long term results and people asking for the toothpaste to be brought to the market place. Thus Happy Mouth was formed!

We became official June of 2019, selling at farmers’ markets all over Colorado. Our website launched and our orders consistently increased. After building a clientele of customers who were seeing amazing results for themselves we were asked to be in several stores. Currently, we are in three stores and are being particular about how we want to grow. Our toothpaste is not one toothpaste meets everyone’s needs. We have multiple flavors that provide different holistic medicinal benefits and while anyone can use any of our toothpastes, certain customers who have specific needs will see the greatest results with the toothpaste catered for their needs. This is why we like to have as much community with our customers as possible. We want them to know that everyone’s unique dental issues can have a solution and we will always be expanding our products to make them more effective and enjoyable.

Happy Mouth has grown significantly in the short time it has been in operation. I now run it with my daughters, we do the entire production ourselves from research, product development, marketing and sales. Our mission with Happy Mouth is that we pride ourselves in being an organic, holistic healing toothpaste that is environmentally sustainable. We give 10% of all of our profits to local and global community transformation with an emphasis on human trafficking and education and counseling for girls. We believe that every choice that we make on this planet can have the power to make a positive impact on this world, even the toothpaste you buy. Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Smooth road is not how I would describe it. Perhaps windy with a few bumps here and there. It has been a huge amount of work in a short amount of time with the growth it has had, however it was years of life experience and personal testimony that qualified me to get to this point.

Please tell us about Happy Mouth Tooothpaste – what should we know?
Happy Mouth Toothpaste is unique in that we didn’t start out to make toothpaste as a business competing with mainstream toothpaste., I truly developed the toothpaste because I couldn’t find anything on the market that provided what I believe a toothpaste should do for your body. I was able to fine-tune and formulate a product that successfully benefits the whole body while brushing your teeth. My motivation is not adding to the toothpaste competition, rather it is to redefine what we are cleaning our mouths with and how powerful natural ingredients can not only effectively clean and heal the mouth but benefit the entire body.

We use only the highest quality ingredients proven for their health benefits. We pride ourselves on being a sustainable company both environmentally and economically. Happy Mouth partners directly with non-profits working in both America and globally, primarily India. We give 10% back. We visit the areas ourselves, volunteer in the organizations we partner with and know first hand the impact that donations are making. We stand on sourcing the highest quality ingredients on the earth, taking care of the earth, and spreading hope, health and freedom to all people groups. The non-profits we work with provide education programs in India, rescue trafficked children, and provide counseling and job opportunities. Our hope is that our customers will feel connected to what they are making an impact in just by buying toothpaste!

So far we are a family-owned, women-only business. I run all aspects of Happy Mouth while my daughters oversee marketing and partnerships with non-profits.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Always have someone check your printed work and focus groups are always a good idea for feedback on product appeal. When you are starting a business like this you will work harder than you ever knew you could. You will work around the clock and be stretched in every direction. I’m embarrassed to say that several times in developing labels for the product, I misspelled one word costing me hundreds of dollars. Having a few pairs of eyes on hand and people you trust who think differently than you will go a long way. Wisdom comes from exposing yourself to a community of people who have different gifting and mindsets than you!
