Today we’d like to introduce you to Kari White.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kari. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve been involved in acting and modeling all of my life so when a photographer asked me to produce a shoot for him in 2009, I wasn’t quite sure what it involved but jumped at the chance be on the other side of the camera. It was a still shoot involving 30 kids over 10 hours in a variety of costumes. The shoot went well and the following week the owner of the studio reached out to me to ask if I would produce all of his shoots. At the time, his job wasn’t a fit for what I wanted to do so I declined but offered to help him rebrand and refresh his website. In exchange for doing this, he put up a bio about me and my production manager services on his website. I was contacted almost immediately by a large outdoor brand who I worked with one extensively over the next few years producing over 100 shoots for them. Since then, I have continued along the same path of outdoor production management and as an avid skier, hiker and runner, it’s been a dream come true.
Has it been a smooth road?
In a production management, no matter how carefully you plan a shoot, there are things that happen outside of your control, especially in Colorado with our ever-changing weather. It’s important to have a contingency plan and learn to be flexible.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Run West Productions – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am the owner of Run West Productions, a production management company based in Denver, Co. I manage all aspects of pre-production to make a video or still shoot come to fruition including budgeting, hiring crew, location scouting and permitting, casting, equipment rental, catering, wardrobe styling and scheduling.
Many of my clients are outdoor brands so I have extensive experience in making outdoor shoots happen from hiking into remote areas and camping overnight to get the first light of day or shooting on top of a mountain in a blizzard.
What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
My advice to anyone starting out is to make it a year of “yes”. A year where you say yes to any and all opportunities, big or small, that comes your way. The people you meet, skills you learn and projects you undertake will be invaluable over the course of your career. Take that project that’s outside your comfort zone and then work your butt off to do it and do it well. You won’t regret it.
