Meet Lesley Byram and Liz Hyatt of Sipsations in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lesley Byram and Liz Hyatt.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Lesley and Liz. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
We were introduced by a mutual friend at brunch and bonded over mimosas. Our next meeting was at a wine tasting, and the rest, as they say, is history. We began getting together during lunchtime a couple of times a month and filming Facebook live videos, showing how to make cocktails with wine (we called it Liquid Lunch). To our surprise, our followers started asking if we had a book of our recipes. We thought, “Why not create one?!” and we launched our book in October 2019.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We joke that it’s literally taken blood, sweat and tears to get here (we’ve had some kitchen accidents during recipe testing). But it’s definitely been a fun process and we have learned so much about mixology, building a brand, and book publishing.

Please tell us about Sipsations. What should we know?
The concept behind Sipsations is, “Creating exceptional experiences out of everyday ingredients.” Our goal is to help people make bar quality cocktails at home using ingredients they already have on-hand, like an opened bottle of wine. It’s so rewarding to see our readers’ eyes light up when they taste one of our drinks and realize they can create the same experience.

We launched our business with a YouTube channel and book, and we plan to expand into retail merchandise and Ready to Drink (canned) cocktails.

We also partner with restaurants, bars, and wineries to develop signature cocktails (“Signature Sips”) to add to their menus.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
First, our passion for food and wine. We are pretty obsessive about making sure all our recipes taste good. Also, of course, our personalities. We love to have fun and show people a good time.
