Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Teets.
So, before we jump into specific questions about what you do, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a 5th generation native to CO, I grew up in Castle Rock CO. I grew up focusing most of my attention on competitive dancing, ballet and jazz. I went to college in Los Angeles to pursue professional acting and dancing careers in Hollywood and lived there for 12 years. I graduated from The University of Southern California with a BA. In LA, I was trained by the founder, to teach the Pure Barre technique at the first LA studio that was opening in Brentwood CA. After teaching for several months, I realized quickly that I needed a break from the film and TV, acting world and moved back to CO. I had planned on pausing from life to go volunteer somewhere in another country but I quickly learned of the opportunity to open Pure Barre studios in CO and continue on my path of passion for boutique Barre fitness with the safest, most popular, effective and most challenging Barre technique out there, Pure Barre.
In 2009, I opened Pure Barre Cherry Creek, the first Pure Barre in CO and the 13th studio to open in the nation (at the time.) I opened two more locations within 1.5 years afterwards, Pure Barre Highlands and Pure Barre Lone Tree. Throughout the years I moved the Lone Tree location into Highlands Ranch and partnered with my sister and 6 months ago I opened Pure Barre Union Station downtown in The Coloradan building.
Throughout the years, I got married and now have 4-year-old twins so my life was quite busy! In October, I sold Pure Barre Highlands and Highlands Ranch and now have my other two locations, Cherry Creek and Union Station. I can’t imagine my life without teaching, taking the classes and the community of Pure Barre. It has completely made me who I am with my experiences as an entrepreneur, a teacher and a leader. I am grateful!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road has not always been smooth. As a small business owner, you enjoy the highest highs and lowest lows and at the end of the day, no matter how many employees you have, it all falls on you when something goes wrong. My advice is to know things can change in an instant and be prepared mentally for that. Celebrate your achievements even if it’s just you treating yourself to a glass of wine or a nice lunch and when you find those really special employees, reward them every chance you have to remind them they are special and to let them know you are seeing your relationship as a partnership.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Pure Barre – what should we know?
We teach the safest, most effective, most challenging and set to the best music of a Barre class out there! We have clients between 20-80 years old and all of them work out next to each other in a class with no levels. Our teachers are trained to have extensive awareness of joint support, body alignment, and injury modifications while providing an extremely challenging workout that provides immediate results.
What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
Be aware of the “ups and downs” of your business and in the great upswings, understand there is probably a downswing in the future somewhere to plan for.
