Conversations with the Inspiring Erin Lemmons

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Lemmons.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Five years ago, my father passed away suddenly from cancer. He was diagnosed on a Thursday and passed away 12 days later. The whole experience was incredibly surreal, and I found myself walking through those weeks in a haze. I started taking stock of my life; what I was doing, what I had done, and where I wanted to be. I really felt a strong desire come over me, to show up in life differently and to be more present and available to the people in my life whom I loved. It started an epic journey to find myself, and to find a way to work and live that bridged peace and well-being with career success and personal growth. I left a 16 year career in HR and went into Real Estate. It was liberating to walk away from the corporate world and to forge a path for myself, by myself. But I loved the HR work I did, and found myself missing that piece of me. I had the opportunity to do some consulting for a previous co-worker, which allowed me to dip my hands in both worlds – real estate and HR. I loved it. As time went on, I found myself more drawn to the HR work I was doing and the support and education I was able to offer to the teams I worked with. That culminated with my decision to open my own HR Consulting business and grow that business. That’s where I am today, and I now have the opportunity to help multiple business owners take care of their businesses and remove the risk of lawsuit and bankruptcy. I still hold my real estate license and find the time to help people buy and sell homes as well, so I am truly living my dream: helping others, following my passion, and making the time to be with the ones I love. It took the hard face of loss to help me find my path forward, and I am forever grateful for the collateral beauty of that!

Has it been a smooth road?
The road is never completely smooth. 🙂 I have struggled; both with my own insecurities and doubts about whether I can really do it, and learning how to truly step into an ownership role – supporting the business, doing the work, finding clients and helping them understand why the services are so important to them. I have had so many ah-ha moments and so many times I went to bed wondering what in the world I was doing. And I’ll tell you a secret, that never goes away. But I am confident in the desires of my heart; I’m confident that what I am doing makes a differences for small businesses, and I am confident this is they way I want to live; and that makes everything worth it. My advice to other women, especially young women who are just starting their journey, is to expect the pitfalls. Expect things to feel hard, and expect to have days where you aren’t sure you’ve taken the right path. But to embrace those moments and know they are all part of the journey. I believe following your passions and being afraid, but doing it anyway pave the way to success. Find accountability partners, and make sure you have support of people you can lean on and who can encourage you when you have the hard days. Never give up on yourself and know you have everything you need inside you to be successful. Seek out the answers to the questions you have; and don’t be afraid to ask the questions. Lastly, don’t be afraid to change your path. Our world is constantly changing and as we build ourselves and our lives, we are bound to make tweaks and adjustments to the work and careers we have. Embrace the journey and be grateful for it all.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Eolàs HR story. Tell us more about the business.
I am an HR consultant, supporting small businesses and helping them bridge the growth gap between 1 and 100 employees, reducing the risk of lawsuit and bankruptcy.

I provide hourly consulting support, HR support packages (including handbook development, training, HR audits, etc) and conduct workplace investigations for organizations as well. I also support larger companies who need help with workplace investigations or are looking to take some of the workload off their current HR team, so they are able to focus on more strategic initiatives.

I understand the laws the regulate business and how to interpret those laws and requirements so that business owners are able to sleep at night, knowing their business is compliant.

I truly believe that businesses need a partner. Someone who will take the time to understand who they are and what they do; someone who will be beside them and provide them with the honest, direct feedback they need to run their business effectively and to build an engaged, highly functioning team. Mutual trust, respect, and expectations are paramount and I am committed to building this type of relationship with all of my clients.

What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
Finding a seat at the table has never been easy. I think as women, we have to be fearless. We need to acknowledge our strengths and our capabilities and lead with those. Too often, we allow our fears or insecurities to keep us from going after what we want, or for standing up for what we believe. We keep quiet when we know we shouldn’t, and we take a backseat, when we should be driving. As women, we need to lean into our confidence and be more intent about going after what we want. We are often times more empathetic to situations or experiences and don’t acknowledge that as a strength. Knowing that our empathy and our ability to take the time to see through a problem allows us to shine, and really set us apart as leaders is an absolute strength and sets us apart. Once we embrace that and understand that we are powerful, we become better equipped to believe in our seat at the table, to take it over and to make a difference. I have never gone into a boardroom believing I am less than; I know I have something to offer and information to deliver, and I will deliver it. It may take time; I will wait for the right moment, but I will get my point across professionally and respectfully and I have found that confidence and preparedness are always the first steps.
