Today we’d like to introduce you to Marvin Martinez.
Marvin, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up in poverty-stricken Gary Indiana was difficult to say the least however it gave me resilience. Being a High School drop-out with limited employment options lead me to join the US Army, that experience gave me self discipline.
Post-military my career with Marriott Hotels gave me exceptional customer service skills. Every experience in my life seemed to be exactly what I needed for my specific Realtor lifestyle now. I moved to Denver in 1999 with Marriott Hotels and I knew I wanted something more. I was inspired by our beautiful mountains. They were so majestic and I knew I was here to stay. NOW armed with Resilience, Self-Discipline and a gift for “Doing for Others” Becoming a Realtor in Denver Colorado was going to be my lifestyle choice and NOTHING was going to stop me!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It was not a smooth road, I struggled with a marriage that was non-supportive, I left a steady paycheck and insurance to obtain our dream for us. Eventually, the pressures of supporting my family and short finances led to me having to earn an income outside of real estate to support my family. Without any formal education, my earning potential was limited, I continued to practice real estate while working as a public school custodian. Humbling to say the least but as a proud provider for my family, I did what I had to do. I have a huge respect for those who work in our city’s custodial services. I will go out of my way to meet and greet them when I see them working.
There were many times I wanted to give up, My life Coach/Brother Emilio Martinez is a monumental presence in my life and through his efforts, I discovered my “purpose in life” and with the incredible support of HomeSmart’s Vice President Lynn Chute constantly reinforcing her belief in me. I left the security of a paycheck and decided to jump in again with both feet as a Realtor. Leaving the security of paycheck and me unwilling to waver in my dreams placed a heavy burden on my marriage. After 29 years of struggling to compromise we both decided it was time to go our separate ways.
Alright – so let’s talk business. What else should we know about your work?
I have been honored as HomeSmart’s #1 TOP Performing Realtor and is one of the MOST sought after Agents in the state of Colorado, Recognized as one of Colorado’s Top 15 Realtors, Charter Member of HomeSmart’s Elite Division, Diamond Club Member, Team Leader, Coach and Mentor to other Realtors.
My Team and I specialize in all types of Residential Real Estate from Buyers to Sellers anywhere in the greater Denver/Aurora Metro areas. We specialize in ALL Down Payment Assistance Programs. We work with city, state and federal agencies that provide down payment assistance on FHA/Conventional loans. We help First-Time Buyers become homeowners and Sellers meet their financial needs. Being a disabled Military Veteran myself we take great pride in honoring our Military Veterans by providing all VA options. Our specialized and tailored concierge services are customized to fit each client.
I am most proud of my recent years, I have been blessed to Mentor and Coach newer agents, I didn’t have a mentor when I began in the business and I feel there is a need to help. I currently Mentor 18 agents at no cost to them. These agents come from a variety of backgrounds and agencies, I don’t care what agency they work for, My mentorship does not recognize company logos. I believe the most important factor about being a Realtor is the individual values and not the company. I believe in giving back to an industry that has provided so much of a platform for me.
Your Home, Your Dreams, Our Priority!
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Emilio Martinez has played a pivotal role in my life, He is not only my Life Coach but also my loving Brother, Mom and Dad would be extremely proud of him.
Lynn Chute is HomeSmart’s Vice President, I consider my trusted mentor, We have known each other many years and we have shared many life experiences together, she has picked me up, dusted me off and sent me back out there many times.
Both Lynn and Emilio has played instrumental roles in not only my Professional life but also my Personal life. I rely heavily on my inner circle of trusted very few close friends. I could not have achieved my level of success without them. I am blessed to have people in my life that care for me and love me.
