Today we’d like to introduce you to Mikey Brackett.
Mikey, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Ten years ago I moved to Denver to begin my master’s degree program in clinical mental health. At the time I was looking to take a step forward in my life towards creating something more meaningful, pursuing something that felt genuinely needed in the world.
My master’s program included all the standard psychological trading along with a spiritual perspective. It was challenging.
Prior to moving to Denver, I lived in Nashville, Tennessee, where I attended Belmont University. After college I took various opportunities and faced open and closed doors.
In Nashville I had the rare and unique opportunity to serve as a chaplain at Vanderbilt Hospital in the cancer treatment center. This experience blew open my eyes to a whole new world. It changed my whole perspective of what was needed and what could be done in the world. As a result of that experience, and many others, I decided I wanted to pursue a whole different path with my life and that ended up leading me to come to Denver.
While I was completing my master’s degree I started my business. And to this day I still function as a psychotherapist. Over the past 10 years I have learned so much and have grown in my awareness of what actually helps people grow and heal.
As a result I have expanded my practice to include various different offerings that seek to meet people where they are and bring about real change to their situations. Things like Yoga Therapy, Wellness Coaching, Enneagram work, and Depth Psychology…
As a person, I desire to see the world become a better place and I believe that on some level it is the individual’s responsibility to begin that process.
It is my hope that through the things I do and the way I show up in the world that people will feel empowered and that they will notice the profound ability that they have to be able to change and heal their lives for the better.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Overall it has not been a smooth road for me. Nothing has come easy. I have worked hard and done my own internal work to keep myself moving.
From my teenage years till now it seems as if life has been a long journey. I have been through a good bit.
I have experienced successes and failures betrayals and unexpected connections. Throughout all of these ups and downs I’ve chosen to try to continue to show up – again and again, even when it feels too much. I’ve sought to see what could be possible; knowing that if I work hard and if I try to be open things will come together in a profoundly good way whether or not it was or is what I imagined it would be initially.
I am a fairly entrepreneurial person and tend to try to think outside of the box on what is truly important – what kinds of things can or should happen in order to make things better. My challenging and progressive mindset tends to create a significant amount of energy around me and sometimes that has been hard to know what to do with. As a result, I’ve had my fair share of misinterpretations and rejections. I’ve been hurt and treated strangely.
On the other side of that however, I can see that my journey has been one that has continually led me further down the ‘road’, increasingly moving towards something more genuine, more effective, and more meaningful than I could’ve imagined if I had remained in certain places or in certain relationships.
You never know what could happen. I am just as surprised as others may be about where I am headed and what I get to do…
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Intersection Counseling and Coaching story. Tell us more about your work.
In my work world I function as a Therapist, Life Strategist, Enneagram Coach, and as a Yoga Teacher. I specialize in helping people mine the depths of their life to find what is under the surface, whether that be root issues or untapped potential. I help people get clarity and help them clear out the things in the way of leading a meaningful life.
I specialize in a few interventions that can be used to help the body and mind heal and gain freedom from certain things that keep them stuck.
Some of these include NET Neuro-emotional therapy (which uses muscle testing to help clear issues stored in the body), Neurofeedback (which uses the brains natural learning mechanisms to alleviate things like anxiety and depression as well as a host of other issues), Yoga therapy and private yoga sessions, imaginative trauma reprocessing, and I work with couples and individuals to improve their relationships.
Many of these things set me apart in the therapeutic world; when combined they provide a treatment process and experience for people that actually works and provides noticeable results to issues that at times feel incredibly difficult to deal with.
I am proud of the fact that many people I have worked with have come to find that their lives are better and that they feel more grounded after or in the midst of our work together.
Hope and healing are possible and there are real ways to see that happen in your life. I have committed much time, effort, and energy towards my own growth and abilities so that I can offer these things in a way that makes sense and is effective. I also collaborate with friends across town. One in particular is a local gym called Compass Fitness. Here I host events to help people learn about themselves and thrive in community.
I also work closely with a group called the Unshakeable Man – Check out their podcast called “The Unshakeable Man Podcast” to hear my insights on different issues.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I have no idea if luck has ever been a factor. I don’t know how much I believe in luck.
I do however understand that there are things outside of myself that are at work, that have on a subtle and profound level influenced the direction of my life.
I would not say I am a lucky person. I would say I am a hard worker, I am intentional, and I am patient, and that the combination of those things has made for the journey of growth that I have been on. In short, it’s probably more due to a fact of my seeking to be willing and open than it has been luck…
