Meet Bridget Ericsson of Wonder Works Fitness in Lakewood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bridget Ericsson.

Bridget, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
“Patience and persistence are vital qualities in the ultimate successful accomplishment of any worthwhile endeavor.” –Joseph Pilates

The beginning of my journey to where I am now really started as a kid but the most relevant portion of my story began just over 12 years ago when I got laid off from my best paying job with amazing benefits… for some reason, the best stories always begin with the biggest struggles. I was 38 that year and had worked in the ski industry most of the adult professional life. I got laid off from my highest paying job, got divorced two years later, and had three abdominal surgeries with those two years due to stress. I had reached rock bottom.

During the time I went through all of that I started looking inward. Strength grows in the moments when you think you can’t go on but you keep going anyway. Thank goodness for awesome friends, amazing family and some small voice inside of me that kept on telling me to start following my heart and do something for ME that I love. I started my journey from ski associations into health and wellness (two things that had always been a part of my life.) I got my trainer certifications and opened up my own home gym called Wonder Works Fitness. I began taking clients in my home and teaching outdoor classes at nearby Red Rocks Amphitheater.

Shortly afterward, I accepted a job at a gym in Denver and began teaching ski fitness classes for my clients. About three years later, I was approached to take a Pilates course to become Pilates certified. I begrudgingly accepted and after about two months into the program, decided that I liked the Kool-Aid and wanted Pilates to become a permanent part of my life. I obtained my Exercise Therapy Specialist certification shortly thereafter.

Pilates and skiing are my two passions, combining them became a dream and a year later a reality as I wrote the book Pilates for Skiers in 2018. I wrote the book in 20 days and it was published six months later. I began traveling to resorts and started teaching Pilates to people both in the ski industry and in the Denver area at Pilates studios. My home business continues to grow through word-of-mouth (zero marketing dollars) and I now also teach classes at a local studio nearby called Pilates Plus, Lakewood where I love my boss and get to work the hours I chose.

Following my heart and my passions has completely evolved and changed my LIFE. I work the hours I want, I have learned how to manifest and ask for what I want and I am a new person. My clients bring me great joy and every day of work is never work because I LOVE what I do. No more office job. No more sitting at a computer for 8 hours a day. My body is the fittest it’s ever been as I go into my 50th year on this planet.

This year brings to me a daughter who will turn 21 and is studying abroad in Spain and will become an amazing teacher. A son who is turning 18 and is a passionate downhill biker, and an amazing boyfriend. I will travel, teach what I love, and spend time with those I love the most. Life is so, so, good. I encourage you to follow your dreams. Believe in yourself when no one else does, and dig down deep to find your passion. You will be SO happy you did!

Cheers! If you ever want to come to try Pilates or go for a ski day mid-week you just look me up at the details provided below!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Wonder Works Fitness story. Tell us more about your work.
Wonder Works Fitness is a small at-home-gym and private Pilates studio that specialized in post-injury rehabilitation and ski fitness. I am most proud of growing my home base from 1 client to 15 plus all on word of mouth. Most of my clients know each other so it is a very family-friendly. Each person that comes into my home is trusted to be here and most of my clients I would consider friends.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I had to laugh out loud at this question. I suppose I had to have some luck but frankly, I believe more in manifestation and hard work. I worked my hide off to get to where I am at now and to have the freedom to do what I want. It certainly was not without struggle.
