Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristina Gasperas.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Kristina. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
After several years of soul-searching for my dream career it dawned on me whilst in the makeup chair on the morning of my wedding – what an incredible job it is to make women look AND feel amazing. The same way I did on my wedding day! And that’s how my journey into the world of bridal beauty began…
I was working in business development for a huge global IT company, I didn’t dislike my job, it just wasn’t very inspiring. So as soon as possible after my wedding, I took a professional course at the makeup school run by my bridal makeup artist and it changed my life more than I could have ever expected!
I’ve never felt happier and more fulfilled in my career. I often have to pinch myself as I still can’t believe I’m actually doing something that I love so much for a living. Something that hopefully making a difference in women’s lives making them feel their most beautiful ever. This builds confidence and self-appreciation and isn’t happiness so addictive?
Within three years of starting out, I won a prestigious award in the UK – the National Award for Best Bridal Makeup Artist at The Wedding Industry Awards and my career just took off. I now have a team of 7 makeup artists and hairstylists, creating bridal beauty at weddings throughout the UK and Europe.
I also have my Beauty Academy where myself and my tutors help other bridal beauty professionals achieve their career goals and dreams. We travel all over the world to teach, as well as running an Online Academy for students who can’t come to our events. It’s another hugely fulfilling chapter of my career – helping others achieve not just the career that they want, but also the lifestyle that goes with it.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It was definitely not a smooth road. I was mother to a 6-month-old, training for a new career that I didn’t know I’d be any good at, and also giving up a regular monthly income. Luckily I have a very supportive husband, who believed in what I was doing, and I really enjoyed my new career, which made the dedication required to succeed a lot easier.
The best advice I can give anyone thinking of embarking on bridal makeup artistry/hairstyling as a career is…
Success doesn’t come along by itself.
Building a successful business takes time, a great deal of effort and patience. I’ve had to be completely focused and build clear, actionable goal lists. These have helped me stay motivated on a daily basis and mapped out what I’ve needed to do to bring me closer to my dream.
When in the process of choosing a new career, get an insight into how it really feels to do the job by shadowing with a mentor.
Ask tons of questions, and really try to get to grips with what it takes to make it in that job or industry.
