Today we’d like to introduce you to Mont Thanaphon Sathornsuntikun.
Mont, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I graduated from King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang in Bangkok, Thailand BA in Fine and Applied Art with majoring in Photography. After I graduated I started working as an in house photographer for the most influential publisher in Thailand, I was shooting everything from events, concerts, cars show, dogs show, wedding, catalog, still life product, to portraits of some important people and high fashion. Then I moved to America started in Oakley, Kansas there miles of beautiful empty land. I started to explore landscape photography.
After that I moved to Dallas, TX and started working for a small portrait studio in a mall, that when I my life challenge me with babies, newborn and normal looking people. I was making so little money compared to what I had to do. Then moved to New York City to get closer to where I wanted to be. (I don’t even know where it is that I want to be I just know that it wasn’t in Dallas, TX) In NewYorkCity, I have photographed many people with different life stories and lifestyles, corroborated with many talented people. I studied fashion photography at the School of Visual Arts and Mastered with Nick Knight. Life was a struggle every day so I was looking for some change, then I choose Colorado to try out again if this working out and now I’m in Superior, Colorado shooting Family, Baby, Children, Portrait, food and also landscape. Hire me I ‘ll shooting everything LoL.
Has it been a smooth road?
Of course, I was never easy from language barrier, cultural differences, discriminated, lack of sleep, time and money to support yourself while doing things you love (I had three to four jobs).
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I provide photography service, Mostly I shoot creative portraits and fashion. And now, I am expanding to do family, kids, headshot, dating photo, engagement photo, food and landscape. I love it when I get to be creative with my subject. It allows me to bring out the most of me push myself to another level and yes, the results are great! Most photographers have this idea that portrait photo is to capture people the way they are, but most of the time we’re not gonna know them right away. So for me is a collaborating between your subject and the photographer to find that connecting and capture.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Analog and film Photography has now making its way coming back while social media making everything so accessible and still photography might have to change to moving images. I am actually starting to exploring moving portrait. It’s not a movie or biography or anything but it just moving portrait. We’ll see.
