Meet Alexa Fitzpatrick

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexa Fitzpatrick.

Alexa, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always been interested in modeling since I was younger, but it wasn’t until I was 17 and had my senior photos taken that I started seriously considering modeling. About three months before I graduated from high school, I started doing as much research as I could into the modeling and fashion community. Soon I got involved in multiple Facebook groups promoting trade photoshoots and Paid shoots plus all the fashion advice that you could imagine.

After multiple conversations and Facebook messages, I had landed my first photoshoot in 2017 as a freelance model and since then, I haven’t looked back. It’s all been a crazy whirlwind of new people, exciting adventures, crazy locations, and even crazier stories. I’m so thankful for every photographer, makeup artist, model, and friend that I’ve met through the community and for every opportunity I’ve gotten till now! Because of all of them, I finally reached my dream goal that I have been working to achieve since I got started modeling and recently got signed to Wilhelmina Denver!! Becoming a signed model is a dream come true and I’m so excited to see what the future holds for my career!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been an uphill battle for me personally. My weight has been a heavy factor in my day-to-day life and it has clouded my judgment when it comes to modeling. Never have I ever had anyone in the community tell me I need to lose weight or I need to be skinnier, but in my head, I’ve always viewed it as a problem. Getting over the fact that my body is the way that it is and that I can work to change it (eating better and working out) but for now, I need to accept it as is has been the biggest struggle.

Growing up the media has always portrayed stretch marks and big tummies as something that you should be ashamed of and I have been. It wasn’t something that I felt super comfortable talking to people about so I kind of kept it to myself until one day I realized that this is who I am and that if people don’t like my photos or me because of my weight or the way I look or the way I talk, then they don’t have to follow me or interact with me and I don’t have any business being involved with them.I’m here for a reason and I shouldn’t be ashamed of who I am or what I look like, it’s taken four years but I’m finally growing into myself and accepting my flaws and using them as my strengths.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Honestly, when it comes to luck, the only luck that has gotten me through everything has been through the people that support me in my life. I’m lucky to have so many amazing individuals that have stood with me through many trials and errors and seen me in my darkest moments. I’m so glad I met all of these amazing people because every one of them has had a special impact on me and made me who I am. I’m so lucky that I ended up with such a supportive and caring family that has believed in every dream that I’ve had since I was young until now. My parents have funded and encouraged my dreams from the start and have always shown up to my events from basketball to theater to fashion shows.

My younger brother Camden has gotten me to believe that I can do anything no matter the age and my grandparents have always made me feel beautiful even when I didn’t. I’m also so lucky to have such amazing friends in my life, My best friend Coco and her family (Phil, Marni, Carson, Harley, Bella, Kendrick, and Lola) have always been like a second family to me! Her mom Marni has been helping me grow my confidence since my freshman year and even came to support me at one of my shows! Coco had a big part in my confidence when it came to beauty and fashion, I’m so thankful she convinced me to step outside of my comfort zone.

My best friend Monica is so special to me and also helps with keeping up my energy when I’m my lowest (You’re my hero!). Finally, I’m so lucky to have met my amazing boyfriend Josh who has taken me to photoshoots, supported me, and even participated in shoots with me. I couldn’t have done it without all of you, when I’m with you guys, I’m the luckiest girl in the world.
