Today we’d like to introduce you to Tawa Ranes.
Tawa, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I came to energy healing after crashing and burning in my 20-year career as an educator. I felt passionate about education and being a positive part of people’s educational experience, but it was never easy or stress-free for me. It had always taken a bit of a personal toll to be part of such a high wired, always on, sort of work environment.
I had started to study Quantum Energetics Structured Therapy before I actually jumped off the cliff and left education, but I had done so with the belief that I was just doing it for my own interests, and at most, I would see clients part-time and continue to work in education. About three months into by two year training, everything shifted. I started to have pretty extreme anxiety (from a fresh whiplash injury) and my work environment became hostile and completely toxic. Or maybe more accurately, I became more aware of how toxic and hostile my work environment (my boss specifically) had become over the last several months. It was time to go.
So, I took a personal leave of absence (which guaranteed me a job if I chose to come back), and I found a job in a neighboring school district, back in the classroom. I lasted about a month and a half. Severe anxiety and panic attacks put me on medical leave and short term disability. I continued to study healing during that time, worked on my own healing, and started to see a few clients here and there as a student practitioner. I was in sheer panic about my future. I had never done anything other than work in the field of education and I just couldn’t wrap my head around how it worked. Not to mention, I simply didn’t have the fortitude and self-confidence to face the world. I was in crisis for a couple of years. But, during that time, I was also healing and getting to know myself.
Coming to accept myself as a healer took some time. Not because I wasn’t good at it. I was naturally very well suited for energy healing. My intuitive abilities were expanding exponentially, almost daily. It was fun! It was exciting! I still couldn’t quite see it, but I kept moving forward. And the Universe kept nudging me forward. There were many times along the way that I tried to backtrack, to find my way back to something familiar, but life wouldn’t really let me. In little ways my experiences kept telling me that I needed to continue forward on my path to healer.
Eventually, I settled into it a bit more. I also eventually moved to a different community. That was an incredibly helpful transition. It allowed me to simply show up as the professional that I was now. No one knew my history. No one thought I might have gone off the deep end by leaving my “professional” and “acceptable” career. People just looked at me and said, “That’s interesting,” and asked me to describe what I do. It was incredibly liberating. I was able to see myself as a healer without having to wade through everyone else’s filter (and opinion).
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There was nothing smooth about the journey into this career. Well, at least not initially. The biggest challenge was simply facing and walking through my own self-doubts. Which society was often very willing to reflect back to me. Once I was able to sift through some of that, it became easier to accept that this is what I did and that I was really quite good at it. Maybe even exceptional at it.
Please tell us about Healing Sun Energetics (and Solar Moon Press).
Healing Sun Energetics is a private healing practice. I see clients one on one, in person or via phone or Zoom. I do Transformative Release Therapy. It is a modality of energy healing that I have developed over the years. Initially, I practiced Quantum Energetics Structured Therapy exclusively. Eventually, my experiences with clients lead me to work in my own unique way. I got confirmation along the way that this was to my clients’ benefit. They were receiving dramatic and lasting healing effects from the work.
People sometimes come to me with a physical health complaint and sometimes with emotional or psychological concerns. Whatever they come for, they generally find deep healing. As they heal, all issues start to resolve, as we are “whole beings” and our health isn’t separated between physical, emotional and psychological. If we approach the work from the physical level, the emotional issues start to resolve as well. If we approach it from the psychological, the physical health improves.
In the last year, I have finally started to teach energy healing. It took a while to want to do this because it felt really important to me to do it in a completely different way than most teaching. I wanted to simply facilitate experiences that would lead people to discover their own innate healing abilities. It has been tremendously successful and deeply satisfying.
Solar Moon Press is a new project I took on in the last year or so. I absolutely love the creative energy that it pulls up from within me. And I love how it has reminded me of the joy that I experience in reading and sharing other people’s wisdom and beauty with the world. I have no doubt it will continue to add many rich layers to my life. I talk about the voices we would like to help to be heard in our latest blog: http://www.solarmoonpress.com/recent-musings.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moments have been watching my clients become well, and enthusiastically participate in their healing, and in their own lives. I am completely humbled and awe struck when I open myself as a conduit for healing and the Divine flows through me. I am continually pleasantly surprised that if I ask and open, the Universe provides whatever healing my clients are seeking.
For me personally, my proudest moment has been completing and publishing my first book: Rooting Down, Growing Up: Tales of Beauty and Grime. Secondarily, it has been starting a cooperative publishing company to find and promote under-represented voices. That was a really dramatic stretch for me. Scary as hell. I resisted every step of the way. But it feels great!
As I wrote, “I resisted every step of the way”, it made me realize that was also the case with becoming an energy healer. Apparently, that is my modus operandi. Once I commit though, watch out world, here I come.
