Meet Miki Tynan and Tara Duncan of Hygge Birth and Baby in Lowry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miki Tynan and Tara Duncan.

Co-founders of Hygge Birth and Baby have been friends and colleagues for over 13 years. In 2017, after careers in insurance, law and finance, Tara Duncan and Miki Tynan felt like there was a greater calling. Together with their love of birth and a desire to establish a place that they themselves wish would have been present when they had children, Hygge Birth and Baby was born. After starting as a doula services company, it quickly became the birth center that it is today serving women and families in a holistic Hygge setting.

Has it been a smooth road?
There have been lots of highs and lows as with starting anything new!! Some of the biggest challenges have been during the construction phase of constant delays and starts. Finding investors that will invest in women owed startups has been equally challenging. There have been many more moments of adversity that we have had to overcome and continue to on a daily basis. We keep focused on the positive, however and take little wins when we can such as the 93 healthy babies that have been brought into the world to date at Hygge.

Please tell us about Hygge Birth and Baby.
Hygge Birth and Baby is a full-service birth center that offers midwifery style care, as well as acupuncture and chiropractic care. Women come to us to experience a non medicated out of hospital birth or well women care. Hygge is proud to be the first independent birth center in Denver! Hygge incorporates elements of a high-end spa along with “Hygge”. Hygge is defined in many different ways but often as a warm welcoming feeling you get when you walk into a familiar setting and can be fully relaxed and present. Through different design elements and the Hygge level of customer care, our clients receive the best of both worlds. A beautifully designed center with individualized care designed to fit the needs of each client.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Hygge is primed to be the first nationally franchised birth center. It is our goal to open one or more centers in Colorado/Rocky Mountain Region and then franchise from there.
