Today we’d like to introduce you to Shakti.
Shakti, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started out as a DJ on the Big Island of Hawaii. There’s a great community for electronic music and ecstatic dance on the Big Island and I really found my home there. It wasn’t long before I realized learning to produce my own music was a goal of mine. I began working in Ableton (a music production software), first just playing around and eventually developing my own sound. I’ve learned so much about music and about myself over the last few years. This past fall, my wife and I moved to Denver and it’s been an amazing place to find so much music!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Producing music is definitely a humbling experience. It’s showing up everyday and releasing judgement and self-criticism and celebrating progress along the way. In my opinion, women have been underrepresented within EDM, which is now shifting. I’m so grateful to those promoters and labels who’ve worked to share equal representation.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I believe music has the power to communicate on a level beyond language. I want to create cathartic experiences for people to heal and celebrate through music and dance.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment for me was opening up for Clozee, who I have been a huge inspiration as an artist!
