Today we’d like to introduce you to Lynne Kelly and Lisa Hjelm.
Lynne and Lisa, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
We are a sister owned and operated business in the South West Denver/Littleton area. We are natives in this beautiful state and have each raised three kids here. As our children reached adulthood, we both found ourselves asking, “what now”? “What are we going to do with ourselves now that we don’t have the day to day demands of young children.” It was at that point that we found our creative sides. We found so much joy in making beauty out of items that many would have discarded. We utilize reclaimed wood products, such as old fencing to make wall decor and furniture items. We also refurbish old wooden cabinetry, desks, tables and more, making what was once considered an ugly duckling into a beautiful piece. Our products have a faith vein, Colorado/Americana and Vintage Farmhouse theme. We enjoy creating pieces for both indoor and outdoor use.
While we both work full time, we find restoring items to the there original state and, in some cases, enhance the beauty and functionality of these pieces, to be extremely fulfilling. We started to see some interested in what we had created. At that time, we launched Great Home Decor Studios and took the business to the marketplace.
Has it been a smooth road?
We collectively would say that it has been a smooth road thus far, as we truly enjoy what we are doing. If we had to nail down a struggle, it might be having the energy to do more after a full day’s work or on the weekends. However, this has not presented as an issue.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Great Home Decor Studios – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Our initial line of product included hand-painted wood signage for indoor or outdoor use. These signs are often special order and commemorate a special occasion such as a Wedding, Graduation, Baptism, or other such life events. Reclaimed, repurposed wood furniture. Decorative and seasonal lanterns, Interior/Exterior Lighting, Kitchen and entertainment items, including hand-chiseled Granite hot/cold serving plates, fire rocks, ceramic serving items, bird feeder/birdbath, water features and many other yard decor items.
As our company has evolved, we wanted to bring this full circle by putting the extra finishing touches to every room in the home. We have included, throw pillows, natural and organic bath soaps, Soy candles (including natural Lotion/Massage candles). We can personalize many of our beautiful decor and event items and take great strides to make sure that you are happy with your product.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Denver is where we grew up. Denver and the surrounding mountains bring ever-changing scenery from the high mountain ranges to flat topography. Colorado truly has everything wrapped into one with four distinctive seasons.
Nothing comes to mind about what we like the least about our city. We feel very fortunate to have been able to stay in this beautiful state and raise our families here.
