Today we’d like to introduce you to Shanti Medina.
Shanti, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Some have a childhood filled with nurture and laughter. I had one riddled with opportunities to survive a loveless mother and obstacles to remember my true nature. As I battled to survive the childhood trauma of being told again and again, “I wish you were never born!”, I created a lifetime of tools to navigate my mother’s alcoholic rages blaming me for my biological father leaving us when I was three months old.
Many years later, after advanced certifications in yoga therapy and meditation, I have fine-tuned the templates of these intuitive childhood tools of self-realization and vagal nerve stimulation in my Body Current® protocols and practices, bridging ancient wisdom and modern neuroscience with simple body-centered templates to self-regulate the nervous system. What I learned throughout my childhood, I crafted into my life’s work, supporting clients and students in remembering their power by tethering to their true nature. It’s a true game-changer when we choose to intentionally and sincerely tune in and tap into this abiding stream of innate wisdom.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I wouldn’t say it’s been a road without obstacles; however, I am truly blessed and deeply grateful for each and every mountain I have climbed for my own healing and every mile I have gone with my clients toward their self-realization and healing. I would say healing the mother wound has offered me some of the deepest lows and profound highs and lessons in my life.
Learning to remember I am loved and how to truly receive love, especially from the divine feminine, has had its struggles and many opportunities over the years. I am deeply grateful for the healing and revealing of the divine feminine through the sacred container of Stirring the Shakti women’s circles and sisterhood retreats I have facilitated over the past 15 plus years.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
The Body Current modality is my life’s work. I love creating personalized body-centered templates to regulate, restore and reprogram the nervous system through the vagus nerve. I get lit up each time I experience a client mindfully revealing their abiding stream of heart-brain-body intelligence or a student applying a simple embodied tool to create conscious patterns in their autonomic nervous system and throughout their life.
I call myself a revealer rather than a healer. Building mindful patterns and neural pathways through our body, brain and breath reveals our true abiding nature and powers-up our healing potential. The Body Current templates and tools utilize our innate intelligence to stimulate the vagus nerve and entrain the brain for self-realization, transformation and healing. The potent protocols and simple principles are not only highly accessible but also immediately applicable to all lifestyles and schedules.
Some of my most proud moments have been teaching my Body Current® curriculum as a bridge between modern-day neuroscience and ancient yoga therapy wisdom. I have loved sharing these templates in a variety of advanced yoga teacher trainings and certifications at the Neurosculpting Institute in Denver, CO and as faculty at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in New York.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
So many lessons have been learned personally and professionally as I continue to grow my business at the age of 52. I am so grateful for all the lessons and teachers, along with way. I believe each intentional step we take toward growth and the lessons learned are all part of the divine fabric of my life and my life’s calling.
