Today we’d like to introduce you to Wellington Bullings.
Wellington, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
As a child, I used to write a lot of stories and poetry. I used to sing my poetry out loud and marvel at the sounds I could make. That is how my love for singing and songwriting began to emerge.
I attended the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston and majored in Jazz vocal performance and songwriting. Shortly thereafter, I set out so start my music career.
After years of performing in several jazz bands as a lead vocalist, I set out to lead my own band.
In early July 2020, I released my debut album titled “Because I Want To.” This project is a collection of seven original songs that touch on themes of self-empowerment and love.
As a multi-faceted artist, I have explored many other artistic mediums. I work as a professional model and actress. I’ve been featured in several commercials for high-end brands such as: Olay Skincare, Secret Deodorant, Crocs Footwear, and more.
I’ve also grown to love the art of teaching. I have been teaching in the Denver area for about six years and I love helping people discover their full vocal capacity. The voice is such an intricate and fascinating instrument and I have enjoyed exploring and teaching about its many faculties of expression.
As of now, I spend most of my days writing music (for film and tv and other projects), modeling for high-end brands, performing, and teaching in the Denver area. I’m currently working on a new project that I hope to release in the next year!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No. I don’t believe that It is ever a smooth road to your dreams, but that’s half the fun. I think my biggest challenges have been self-created. I used to be consumed by self-doubt and perfectionism…so much so that I would never release anything. I struggled to fully own my voice as an artist. The music industry doesn’t always praise authenticity so it took me a while to trust my vision. However, deep down I always knew what kind of music I wanted to make, and I’m happy to say that I won’t settle for anything less than that.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Many people know me as a singer/songwriter. However, I do many things. I’m a model, actress, and teacher.
If you know me as a teacher, you know that I am passionate about teaching my students about healthy vocal technique and the art of stylizing intentionally.
If you know me as a model/actress, you know that I love the camera and the art of capturing authentic moods in a photo or on film.
If you know me as a singer/songwriter, you know my heart is in it all the way so don’t expect anything less than that at my shows or in my recordings. 😉
What were you like growing up?
I was pretty quiet as a child. I felt most comfortable expressing myself through art, especially through the performing arts. It always surprised people that I felt perfectly comfortable on stage because I was so shy. I used to act in plays and sing at all my family/friend’s events. I was also obsessed with horses and competed in jumping horse shows! I was pretty adventurous.
