Meet Megan Parsons

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Parsons.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Originally from Naples, FL, I journeyed out west for college and went to Leeds School of Business at CU Boulder. After college, I moved to New York City to merge my love for theatre and business. I ended up finding a passion for the hospitality industry and quickly grew into the role of Director of Events for a large multi-unit restaurant group and then moved into overseeing operations for the entire company. My passion for overseeing the operations, creating structure, and implementing marketing strategies for growth convinced me it was time to start my own business doing exactly that I moved to Florida for a year while I got my bearings and built out a marketing and consulting agency. I specialize in helping small business owners craft a layered, holistic marketing and growth plan to best serve their desired results and capabilities. I work with business owners in both an agency, done-for-you setting, as well as an advising and mentorship style so they can learn the in’s and out’s of becoming their own CMO.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a winding road, to say the least. I knew I wanted to start my own business for the last five years and I wanted to work with business owners on truly building and growing their business. But, I struggled to make sense of how that would look and what that service would be. So I started my business offering marketing services and would take on contract clients and long-term projects to have a sense of security during the beginning while I figured it all out. I would partner with other businesses and help grow their vision instead of my own. Over the last year, maybe witnessing the pandemic and the lack of security even the most safe jobs can offer, I started to really double down on my business. I expanded my product suite to not only offer marketing services but true 1×1 consulting and coaching style mentorship for business owners looking to start or scale their business. It has been a year of true growth and expansion and many amazing wins, but obviously, that did not come without hardships, loss, and changes along the way.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?Megan Parsons Projects is a one-stop shop for 1:1 Coaching, Agency Services, Community, and Education for entrepreneurs and small business owners looking to start or scale their business. At MPP, we’re thrilled to work with passionate + driven small business owners who are ready to take action and catapult their business to the next level through strategic marketing and business planning for long-term success. I specialize in helping small business owners who are feeling stuck and overwhelmed by all the typical solopreneur tasks and “should-be” doings move through these feelings by getting focused on a few specific objectives, gain clarity on their future vision, and create a strategic marketing and growth plan to bring that vision to fruition.

What sets MPP apart is the focus on doing less but better. Our clients leave with internal clarity because we have drilled down and gotten focused on the objectives that are most going to move the needle forward with where they are at currently. We’re big believers in quieting the outside noise and comparison that plagues many small business owners when they are starting out and focusing on the work to best serve the future goals. I’m most proud of the community and accountability we have been able to create through MPP.

We’ve launched a community within Megan Parsons Projects called Congregate & Co. where we offer a topic of the month, monthly meetings with guest experts to offer new perspectives and mini-trainings, an Accountability Pod hosted on Slack so members can support and share wins with each other, as well as a quarterly Book Club. It has allowed for an intimacy amongst our members that I felt was missing through many FB group offerings and other platforms. I have loved nothing more than bringing together such like-minded, passionate and driven entrepreneurs who have big dreams for the future and find others to help support them through it. I help business owners in two different settings. Through agency services (done for you services), we help your business reach full potential through storytelling, strategy + execution, and crafting high-level customer experiences. We create marketing strategies, handle digital marketing services, PR, and become our client’s CMO. Through coaching and consulting (taught to you services), I work as a trusted advisor and teammate to help guide clients on their entrepreneurial journey.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
I do believe the Covid-19 crisis gave me the courage and clarity to show up in my business the way I truly wanted. I think for years, I have always tried to convince myself to find something I love more than helping business owners and running my own business because it isn’t easy. And you certainly don’t ever get to walk away or take a break from your own business like you can sometimes when you’re working in a 9-5 job. As the business owner, you are the one accountable for how the business runs and you no longer have one role- you have a hand in all of them. Yet, even with all the responsibility and late nights, Covid has truly taught me that we need to go after what we want as there are many things outside of our control. But, we can control what we put our passion, time, and energy towards. So Covid helped me to stop playing small and show up for what I truly wanted to create.
