Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Gaston.
Hi Jamie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am a Colorado native who was born & raised in Longmont. I attended grade school through college here following in my grandparents & parent’s footsteps. My parents both worked hard to make sure my sister & I had great role models growing up. My little sister & I had an amazing childhood & upbringing. I have strong faith & family values. My passion is helping others. I want everyone to feel their best & look their best every day. I strive to always turn negative into positives & set good examples for my children no matter what’s thrown my way. I want them to know that anything is possible if you set your mind to it & never give up always follow your dreams. I absolutely love photography & aspire to be the editor & chief of my own magazine in the near future. I love crafting, party planning, dancing, glamping, jet skiing on the lake & traveling. I have several years of modeling experience & being in the entertainment industry. I knew there was more to me then what I was doing sitting behind a desk all day. I prayed about it & did a lot of soul searching for my purpose & decided to make a career change in 2019. I went back to school & obtained my aesthetics license & life coaching certifications so I could pursue my passion for helping others feel & look their best, from the inside out. In school I graduated with honors in the top of my class with perfect attendance, in the Presidents Club with a 4.0 GPA, & a member of the Alpha Beta Kappa National Honor Society. I was ranked #1 in sales for April 2019 & won Make-up artist of the quarter while attending school. In 2020 I was voted Makeup artist of the year. My make up artistry has appeared in numerous magazines & on several magazine covers. I studied make-up artistry in New York with Celebrity Make-up Artist Mario Dedivanovic. I graduated from Barbizon School of Modeling & co-wrote my music single “Nothing to Loose”.
In 2019, during the pandemic lock down I lost 30 lbs. & maintained it through the pandemic. I was crowned Miss Longmont 2020 inspiring my two daughters Ashlyn Marie (9) & Kynslie Rose (3) who were crowned Little Miss & Tiny Miss Longmont. In 2020 I appeared in my first ever Miss Colorado State pageant. I want to make a positive impact in my community and where ever I can. I enjoy empowering women to enhance their natural beauty & also explore their inner beauty. I want children & women to feel confident. I am now an advocate for domestic & mental abuse, Rheumatoid Arthritis awareness & leading a healthy lifestyle, Mind, Body & Soul. I previously owned Jamie’s Boutiques & Butterfly Kisses Kids in Firestone Colorado. Voted #1 on the Denver A List several years in a row, where I empowered women & children of all ages to look & feel their best by being able to buy brand name affordable consigned clothing, jewelry, shoes & purses. I held charity events giving teens the chance to come & pick out a Free prom dress. I held fashion shows events for senior citizens & children. Currently I am the proud owner of Just Jamie Skin Studio in Longmont where I help my clients love the skin they’re in. I also provide wellness & life Coaching services concentrating on mental health wellness in adults & children. I hold a weekly walking group meet up to support the women in my community to lead healthy lifestyles.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Some of the struggles I had faced as a younger kid was being bullied about my appearance. I wasn’t as outspoken as some other kids & was looked upon as the shy quiet one. These events had given me low self-esteem. My parents inspire me, they have laid the foundation for my life. My mom provided a beautiful example of how a woman of integrity, faith & commitment operates. I followed in my mother’s footsteps being an entrepreneur for health, wellness & natural skin care. As a young kid my mother & grandmother were diagnosed & struggled with RA & Diabetes. My Dad was an amazing provider & role model for our family demonstrating the true meaning of unconditional love. He had to take on a lot with us two girls while also caring for our mother. In 1999, during the pregnancy of my son I was diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum & Preeclampsia. It did not make for a fun pregnancy & had to deliver him early. In 2011, I went into early labor with my second child Ashlyn Marie after being told that my grandmother had passed away, sadly the same day. She was looking so forward to meeting her & I was so heartbroken & devastated. I had delt with mild post-partum blues. In 2019 my Dad, Sister & I were my mother’s care givers while she recovered from a double knee surgery. I encountered some bumps in my life & went through a divorce, had mental, emotional & verbally abusive relationships. I became a single mother of three & went back to school after 20 years with a toddler at home to become a licensed Aesthetician. I struggled with my weight for the first time in my life after having baby #3.
I pushed forward in 2020 & started my Skin Studio business three days before the Covid-19 pandemic began and needless to say that came to a screeching halt quickly. I wanted to re build my Self Confidence so I embarked on an incredible journey as Miss Longmont for America while going through the pandemic & homeschooling all my children. My work outs gave me time to reflect & a way to manage all my stress and anxiety. I found I had such a passion for make-up artistry & photography. I realized I couldn’t let negative people steal my happiness & joy. I refused to let them control me & my emotions any longer. I had to soul search & learn to love myself as I was. I wanted to show my kids that you have to work hard & never give up to achieve your goals. You can overcome things & come out even stronger. I know my grandparents are shining down on me & proud. Everything that has transpired in my life has made me the person I am today & keeps preparing me for my true purpose.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I love my job as an Aesthetician. I wear many hats also being a Make-up artist, Wellness/Life Coach, small business owner & single mother of three beautiful children. I am a skincare specialist & do a lot of Derma planning, Nano Needling, Microdermabrasion, facials & lash extensions. My passion & love is for Make-Up & Photography. I am so intrigued by Make-Up Artistry & work closely with photographers as their creative director coming up with fun creative & unique concepts to shoot for magazines. I’m certified in a huge variety of esthetic services, wellness & life coaching. I was honored to have won make-up artist of the year in 2020. Helping people achieve their goals & hit confidence levels they have never seen before is an amazing feeling. I am so humbled at the wonderful thing’s clients say, They are more like family to me than just clients. I promote positive self-image to my clients. I want them to embrace their inner & outer beauty & periodically reinvent themselves to be the best version of themselves they can be. It’s such an amazing feeling when you can make your clients see themselves in a new light of confidence, it’s all worth it.
What are some of your likes & dislikes? What do you like about the city?
I love to support small business & shopping for treasures at local thrift stores & garage sales. I absolutely love creating community within my city. I like anything hand made with love. I like to cook, spicy food, chocolate/peanut butter combo, throwing themed parties, surprises, organization, music, country dancing, jet skiing, traveling, decorating, crafting, photography & all things sparkly! I am very sentimental & keep little things like concert tickets to document life’s memories. My life motto is: Life is like a camera. Focus on what’s important. Capture the good times. Develop from the negatives. And if things don’t work out, just take another shot! OR Life is not measured by the breaths we take but by the moments that take our breath away. Dislikes: Spiders, Being late, fast food, Liars, disappointment, negativity, when plans change, clutter.
