Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Asche.
Hi Amy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Growing up, I was the only girl in a family of metalheads. My cousins and brother were obsessed with metal and industrial music, and from a young age, I found myself tagging along to their band practices and shows. While they were rocking out on stage, I was the one lugging gear, snapping photos, and occasionally driving them home after they’d had one too many backstage beers.
Despite being surrounded by all that headbanging chaos, my mom always nurtured my creative side. She encouraged my love for art, music, and animals – I had a full menagerie of pets over the years, from rats and turtles to dogs and frogs. My first photography subjects were those beloved animal friends and an assortment of stuffed toys.
As I got older, my lens naturally turned toward my cousins’ bands and local models. That experimentation with concert and portrait photography eventually led to the formation of The Metal Maidens – a fierce crew of local metalhead girls who model for me and do charitable work in our community. Together, we’re smashing gender stereotypes in the male-dominated rock and metal scene.
The Metal Maidens really struck a chord, advocating for more female representation across Denver’s creative arts. These days, I collaborate with all sorts of talented local artists and creatives. My latest venture is a publicity company and internet radio station called Jane Doe Radio, streaming the hottest metal acts 24/7 alongside insanely talented local bands. It’s been quite a journey from that shy girl at her cousin’s gigs to building my own multimedia platform for alternative artists! www.janedoeradio.net www.metalmaidens.org www.residentrockstar.com www.amyasche.com/amy
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The path to where I stand today has been a winding road, riddled with challenges and obstacles that tested my resilience every step of the way. My professional endeavors, familial commitments, and academic aspirations have all played a significant role in shaping the pace and trajectory of my journey. Over the course of 25 years immersed in the local creative arts scene, I have faced life-altering events and tragedies that could have derailed my progress – abusive relationships, the loss of loved ones, the turmoil of the COVID-19 pandemic, and even car accidents and thefts. Yet, through it all, my determination has remained unshakable, fueled by an unwavering drive to persevere.
“Life is effort, and I will stop when I die.”
If the road were entirely smooth, it would not have required the unwavering effort and perseverance that have defined my journey thus far. These challenges have forged my character, shaping me into the resilient individual I am today.
My educational pursuits have been a testament to my dedication. I graduated from Front Range Community College and the prestigious NYU Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music, among other accomplishments. Putting myself through college has been a constant learning experience, one that has fostered my growth and enabled me to continually expand my horizons. I’m into micro learning not microdosing.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a conceptual surrealist photographer as well as a live music photographer. My conceptual surrealist photography involves creating imaginative and dreamlike compositions by combining different elements in creative ways.
I specialize in conceptual portraiture, where I blend human subjects with imaginative surroundings and surreal elements. My live music photography captures the high energy and candid moments of musicians performing on stage.
In addition to my photography skills, I also have training in graphic design, digital imaging, portraiture, music management, and even tattooing through earning associate degrees and certificates in these areas.
My diverse skillset spanning photography, design, body art and more allows me to approach creative projects from a multidisciplinary perspective. This ability to draw from various artistic disciplines really sets me apart.
I’m most proud of my conceptual surrealist portraiture work, as it allows me to bring my imaginative visions fully to life through striking and thought-provoking imagery. Being able to create these surreal scenes that spark curiosity and wonder is deeply fulfilling.
Overall, I blend my talents in photography, digital art, design and other creative disciplines to produce distinctive conceptual surrealistic portraiture along with dynamic live music photography. My unique creative vision combined with my multimedia skillset is what allows me to create such distinctive and impactful imagery.
