Conversations with Lindsay Hope

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Hope.

Lindsay Hope

Hi Lindsay, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My path to entrepreneurship started in 2019. After working in the non-profit world, in a marketing agency, and at a craft brewery, I decided I wanted to take the leap into starting my own business. (Little did I know, in a few months, the entire world would change when COVID started.)

It’s funny when I think back to my original motivations for starting my business: freedom of time and schedule, the ability to work from home, and being a “writer” topped the list. Those things are still really important to me, and my inspiration has also shifted a bit. Now, I’m fortunate enough to be selective in who I work with. This means I choose projects that are aligned with my vision and values, partners I enjoy working with, and projects that are positively impacting the world. I’m motivated by helping other businesses and friends/clients succeed — not simply checking the “self-employed writer making money” box.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
At times, the road has been smooth, and other times, it’s been bumpy. I believe entrepreneurship is always a roller coaster. From building a personal brand (which comes with a lot of internal growth for most of us) to finding clients to managing finances, it’s never boring!

For many freelancers (and for me), building a pipeline of good leads is one of the biggest challenges/struggles. You have to consistently market yourself, which can take a back seat when you’re busy with client work… but when that work ends, you have to be ready to find new projects. If you’ve taken your foot off the gas of marketing for your own business, it takes a while to build back up and find new clients.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m an email strategist and conversion copywriter. I specialize in helping service-based businesses uncover hidden revenue in their email lists. Helping service providers like coaches, consultants, and creatives build deeper relationships with their audience through the power of highly connective emails lights me up! And when we use email to help them make more money (and help more people), it’s the icing on the cake.

What sets me apart from other email marketers is my process. I always start each project with research and discovery. I need to learn as much about a new client as I can: what they offer, who their clients are, what makes them unique, what language they use, etc. I build detailed email strategies and customer journey maps. Then I write personality-driven conversion copy for their emails. Finally, I’m big on testing and optimization. You can learn so much by tracking email metrics, and there are always areas where you can improve. That’s my goal: continuous learning and improvement — with every client.

Any big plans?
Right now, I’m focused on finding more ideal-fit clients to work with: coaches, consultants, and creatives who want to build better relationships and make more money with emails. Values-aligned projects are the most fulfilling for me, and working with people who are dedicated to personal and professional growth, developing a positive mindset, and building up women-owned and purpose-based businesses.

Most every project I do is custom, but the biggest change I’m making is including a brand voice and messaging guide with my email strategy and copywriting projects. Without defining what a brand voice stands for — tone, style, voice pillars, do’s and don’ts, as well as writing style and key messages, it’s difficult to create emails that convert. It’s a huge bonus for my clients to get a full copywriting package — from overarching strategy to brand voice to highly connective, high-converting email copy — so they can build their businesses with their ideal clients. It’s really a win-win.
