We recently had the chance to connect with Amanda Louise and have shared our conversation below.
Amanda, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes would be me getting out of bed around 5 or 6 am to get ready to go to the ice rink. I of course make a cup of coffee, do my yoga, and head out! I grab some sort of fruit or bar to go and eat on the drive there.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello, My name is Amanda! I am a figure skater, actress, and US Army veteran. I have tried many things, and now I feel like I am on the right path! I began figure skating when I was 23 years old. I fell in love with it the moment I stepped onto the ice. I had always wanted to learn how to figure skate, so when I finally had the opportunity, I said, “Why not?” For the past five years, I have been working hard to improve my skating skills, and I get a little bit better every day. When I turned 27, I finally decided, after years of contemplating, to try acting. And I am so happy I did! I have discovered that I have a deep passion for the performing arts, and I cannot wait to see where this new path in life takes me. Finally, I am still serving in the US Army Reserves. I enlisted at 17 years old, and I will turn 30 next year. Time flies! It was the best decision I could have made for myself. I am also working on something big, like huge. I do not want to say anything yet, but it will be a project that benefits not only me but the community. This will be a game-changer!
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
When I was a child, I used to believe that I was not good enough. Not smart enough, talented enough, pretty enough, strong enough, etc. Needless to say, I know now that I am good enough and all those things! The beautiful part about aging is that you learn to love yourself and have the confidence to be unstoppable.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of what other people thought of me. I used to hold myself back because I did not want to be judged. “What would they think about me if I did this or that?” is what always ran through my mind. It took me a long time to break free of that fear, but when I did, it felt like a weight lifted off my shoulders. But sometimes deep down, when I feel it rise. I always give myself a pep talk and reassure myself that life is too short for regrets.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I believe you’re never too old. It does not matter what, but as long as you start, that is what’s important! I remember when I told people I had dreams of modeling. I was 18 at the time, and I was told that I was too old. I know that is a lie because I see many lovely mature models, and the industry is changing! I remember when I started figure skating, I would have other adults ask me if they were too old to start. My answer was and always will be no! The same concept applies to acting. Whatever it is a person wants to do, they are never too old. The only thing that will keep them back, is the doubt and projection from other people.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I definitely feel like I am doing what I was born to do. I tried many things and it took a long time to get to this point. But I finally feel like I am doing what I am meant to do. And it feels darn good!
