We’re looking forward to introducing you to Becca Spiro. Check out our conversation below.
Becca, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
A lot of people think that the Frosted Flamingo is just for kids, but I actually work with adults all the time-bachelorette parties, corporate events, team building, etc. and I have an entire menu of adult-oriented projects!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am originally from Boston, Massachusetts, but I have lived in Breckenridge, Colorado for almost 12 years. I have two sons, ages 2 and 5, and they are pure joy, inspiration, and love incarnate. I have owned and operated The Frosted Flamingo Mobile Art Studio for over 7 years. I offer private and public events for all ages, and I have a new basecamp studio in Breckenridge. Since I am a mobile studio, I offer crafts in a range of venues (including private homes, hotels, breweries, hospitals and more). My project menu is updated yearly and I get to work with a diverse population. Work is never boring!
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
We risk losing connection with others when we fail to communicate, and when there is a lack of curiosity or interest in different perspectives and opinions. We build connections when we prioritize relationships and learning, when we greet each day with wonder.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would remind my younger self that you can’t control what others think. I would encourage my younger self to stop worrying about what to wear, eat, or how to act, and just do what feels authentic and joyful.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
My work is inherently social and I think much of my success had been due to relationships I have built and conversations I have had. I love what I do and I love talking to people at my events. I am in my element at work. That said, I also really enjoy solitude, so carving out time when I am alone and doing nothing is essential for me to recharge.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What are you doing today that won’t pay off for 7–10 years?
Being a mom can feel like a thanks-less job. My kids don’t thank me for packing lunch, doing laundry, or driving them around. But I do know that they will realize how much I have done when they are older. Gratitude is something I model for them every day.
