Brandon Douglass shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Brandon, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: When was the last time you felt true joy?
Thanks for the reminder. I may as well feel it now. What other energy would I want to live from?
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am just another human being like any of us. I’m deeply curious about life and how we can all live more authentically and beautifully together. I’ve spent much of my adult life exploring the poles of experience.
Most notably, my practice of parkour brought me around the globe to compete and create with many of the planet’s most talented and extreme athletes. After parkour, I explored holistic health, medicine, and spirituality in ways that balanced my aggression, expression, and movement with compassion, perception, and stillness.
I am now launching a new chapter, offering my guidance to those seeking their own joy, success, and expansion.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I used to believe that there was something wrong with me. Probably more than just one thing. Probably a lot of things haha.
I know now that the belief that something is wrong with me is false. More importantly, this belief and all beliefs are just things that I don’t know. When I can admit that and investigate the questions a bit further, there are often valuable insights and realizations waiting just beyond the edge of my current understanding.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Almost? Haha I have given up on many things and many times! I know a lot of people have resistance to giving up. They think it makes them weak, and in fact sometimes that’s true. But people fail to recognize that an inability to give up is another kind of prison. Sometimes it can take more strength and courage to let go of something than to continue grinding away at it to no end.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
Truth. This is not simple because truth can be relative, subjective, and we all lie to each other and to ourselves in myriad ways. However, if we don’t at least aim at truth, then will are surely lost.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I’m going to paraphrase and bite a response from one of my mentors and favorite living people, Sadhguru:
I hope that people live so amazingly, authentically, and presently that the thought of reminiscing on stories of me or other dead people never even arises.
