We’re looking forward to introducing you to Erin Taylor . Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Erin, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
Trauma.
There is so much hidden, suppressed and forgotten trauma. There is also familial and ancestral trauma that is handed down to us through our genetics (epigenetics).
Nobody “wants” to address trauma, so we stuff it away with addictions, work, food, shopping, exercise, etc. hoping to leave the past in the past.
But trauma never just “goes away”. It just keeps rearing its head until it’s acknowledged. And the body certainly never forgets trauma, even if the memory is forced to forget.
When you have survived trauma since a child, and have learned about it, and walked the healing path of it…you see everything through the compassionate lens of trauma.
So, it is easy to recognize untreated or under treated trauma because you can see parts of yourself if so many people.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Erin Taylor. I am a retired nurse and dietitian, turned health writer and author.
I have a passion for mushrooms…all mushrooms.
I believe mushrooms are allies here to help us heal, grow and evolve.
At the tail end of my 12-year nursing career, I found myself in severe burnout and started becoming interested in gourmet mushrooms, as well as healing modalities such as meditation, hot yoga and sound.
I found a mushroom farm internship and learned how to grow all kinds of gourmet mushrooms.
This ignited a career path that started with a gourmet mushroom kit business, then led to women’s mushroom retreats, and finally turned towards a copywriting and publishing career which has produced several books, and an informational website about…
You guessed it…
Mushrooms.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I’ve been a writer since I was a kid.
I was nominated to be the Editor-in-Chief of my high school literary magazine.
Through two college degrees and two professional careers as a dietitian and nurse, I always wrote, wrote, wrote…
I took notes and I wrote, wrote, wrote out study guides before tests.
I took several writing classes in college.
Both my careers as dietitian and nurse required me to write substantial amounts every day.
I write (most) everyday in my journal and have since 2018.
I am a 4th generation author (first woman) in my family.
Writing is literally in my blood.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
No matter the circumstances of your life, when things get hard, and they will, a lot…never, ever, ever doubt your worth.
Remember that all the hard times are sent as lessons and opportunities to grow into the incredibly strong woman you are to meant and will become.
Your creator never gives you anything you can’t handle, and is always there when you feel overwhelmed and alone- as well as the joyous moments, too.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Integrity.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
I’m 51 and I’ve had a very colorful journey called life so far.
I’ve experienced a lot in my life that no other human should ever experience, and I’ve hurt a lot of people, especially myself, along the way.
The most beautiful thing I’ve learned and experienced about growing up early and experiencing many life traumas is- it is just a big opportunity to turn all the bad stuff into something beautiful that not only heals me but the world around me, too.
People might have opinions about my past actions and my current career path, and they certainly do…trust me.
I can’t honestly think of a more perfectly fit legacy for me than the one I am leaving.
