We recently had the chance to connect with Kara Jones and have shared our conversation below.
Kara, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
My absolute favorite way to lose track of time is by going thrifting. I could spend hours wandering each aisle, trying to find treasures. This has become part hobby, and part business. It helps me reset while feeling productive and sourcing items to resell at my eBay store.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I started Zee’s Pieces in 2022 when I needed a way to make extra money while organizing the house. I started selling things we no longer needed on eBay. Then I began learning how to make jewelry and accessories, which led to an Etsy shop. Soon, I discovered the joys of thrifting and began searching for vintage home decor, clothing, and jewelry. This became my main focus for a while. Recently, my jewelry began selling more often too. Then I took on generating AI content through WhimsyBloom AI, and revisited my baby name consultation service blog that I began back in 2013 called The Art of Naming. I also have Kara Jones Photography. My brand had expanded into brands, and it keeps me busy!
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was shy and sheltered, but now I am going full speed ahead with all my passions.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Without getting into details, I had a very difficult first marriage that taught me more than an easy marriage ever would have. And now I have resilience and ambition and strength in my new happy marriage. While life is still a struggle in other ways, I know success is right around the corner. The hard times teach you to fight hard for the good times.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
After everything I have endured and learned from, the fundamental truths lie in faith, family, and freedom. Keeping these three things secure will allow you to have happiness and successes everywhere else.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What light inside you have you been dimming?
These questions are brutal. Quit making me get introspective!
Okay, if I am keeping a light dim, it’s probably the one that would allow me to really put myself out there.
My life has been unorthodox and difficult to explain in under an hour, so I tend to squash down a lot of the past things that have made me the person I am now because of the complexity behind it all. So, in short, being the real me is tiring so I don’t go very deep and try to keep things light.
If I felt more comfortable embracing all that, I may be less shy and start doing live content and making more sales. Stage fright has always been a huge thing and I let it keep me flying under the radar when I should be soaring.
