An Inspired Chat with Mary Beth LaRue of Evergreen, Colorado

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Mary Beth LaRue. Check out our conversation below.

Mary Beth , really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
I love morning so I try to get up at least thirty minutes before my family. I pull on my robe, make a coconut milk latte with adaptogens, cacao and cinnamon and enjoy my coffee while it’s hot – usually incorporating some meditation, deep breathing or just staring out the window. Then it’s getting my seven year old ready for school while feeding our two English bulldogs. Since my creativity and focus is at its prime in the morning I try to work on any projects I have in the works for a couple of hours. I sometimes teach slow flow yoga around 9 0r 11 am. Then in the afternoon I answer emails and get any to do list stuff done. From there it’s time for me to work out – walking, lifting, Pilates or more yoga – if I wasn’t able to do it in the morning. I try to be done with my work day by 2 pm then it’s time to hang with our son, get outside, make dinner, etc. I love to get to bed early so I’ll maybe watch a show with my husband and read for a bit then crash.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Mary Beth, but you can call me MB. I’m a yoga teacher, coach, and Integrative Somatic Practitioner. Originally from small-town Iowa, I now live on a mountaintop in Colorado with my husband, our son, and two crazy bulldogs.

I’m the founder of Embodied by MB — a collection of offerings rooted in presence, nervous system wisdom, and soul. This includes virtual slow flow classes, a somatic-based teacher training, a signature online coaching program, and retreats that feel like coming home.

I love a good cup of coffee, fresh air, road trips and Sunday mornings with my family. And all humans and things that are full of soul.

I’m a Virgo sun, Leo rising, Libra moon. I don’t care much for labels, but “extroverted introvert” feels like a close-enough fit. I fill my cup in solitude — usually with a warm mug in hand, tucked into a corner of a cozy coffee shop or wandering somewhere green and quiet.

Connection, embodiment, and soulfulness aren’t just values to me — they’re the compass I use to design my days, my work, and the way I move through the world.

For over fifteen years, I’ve guided people home to themselves through the practice of yoga. From Wanderlust Festivals to the cover of Yoga Journal, from retreats with professional athletes to quiet circles of teachers-in-training, I’ve had the honor of holding space across a wide spectrum.

I’ve completed thousands of hours of yoga teacher training with Schuyler Grant, Kia Miller, Tiffany Cruikshank, Donna Farhi and more. I am also a certified life coach through Martha Beck. My studies in somatics include certifications as an Integrative Somatic Practitioner through both The Embody Lab and the Integrative Wellness Academy. I’m currently enrolled in my Somatic Experiencing International Training as well.

My work has taken me around the world and deep into the heart — offering practices in rehab centers, shelters, and with the Down Syndrome Association of Los Angeles. I created a mentorship program to support fellow teachers, completed life coach training with Martha Beck, and regularly share our family’s foster adoption story through writing and speaking—including for HBO, Good Morning America, and Yoga Journal.

I’ve led immersive retreats at Kripalu and 1440 Multiversity, and partnered with brands like Nike, Amazon, Lexus, and Vital Proteins to bring intentional movement and presence into unexpected spaces.

What remains constant in all of it — whether I’m guiding a room full of students or sitting in stillness alone—is the belief that our bodies hold the wisdom, and our breath is the way back.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
I’d say as a younger teacher and woman I cared a lot more about what people thought of me. And in some ways it did serve me in my younger years. I was like a sponge, taking in everything and everyone’s opinions, wanting to do things “right.” It helped me grow and refine my voice. But now, that people-pleasing part of me can rest. I trust myself, my teaching and my path.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
You don’t have to have it all figured out. Keep following your body and your intuition. It’s guiding you exactly where you need to go.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes! Congruence is so important to me and one of my core values. And of course, my close friends and family have a very different, more private version of me, that’s natural. But in all the ways that matter, I strive for congruence. I want the me you see in class to be the same me you meet at the grocery store, in a coaching session, on a retreat.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Overscheduling, overthinking, fearing. And these are things that I am working to overcome now.
