An Inspired Chat with Montana Glenn Lac, DOM of Fort Collins

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Montana Glenn Lac, DOM. Check out our conversation below.

Montana, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
I never thought that I would do online coursework as I value in-person, comprehensive intakes and holding space. But now, after the birth of our sweet baby, Soli, I feel pulled to make my specialized knowledge and tools accessible. I truly see the need for me to branch out now!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Montana Glenn, LAc, DOM, mother, herbalist, acupuncturist and women’s health practitioner. I specialize in fertility and women’s health care, particularly complex conditions such as endometriosis, PCOS and autoimmune conditions. I absolutely love helping women through the motherhood journey and have learned how to not only easily recognize complexities and “get to the bottom” of dis-ease but also how to practically guide women through various health and fertility challenges. Much of my success, as well as my husband’s, has come from my own personal unique health challenges. Our “out of the box” approach has stemmed from finding ways to address my issues and simplify to find deep healing. At Glenn Fertility & Family Wellness we aim to provide comprehensive care that is custom to each individual integrating Western and Eastern Medicine and a whole person approach.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Two factors in my life contributed to my niche career path: 1) being a female with gynecological pain and the surrounding issues that pair with undiagnosed endometriosis as well as 2) becoming pregnant and seeing changes in my health and symptoms throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding. I have both a 10 year old and a 6 month old. I breastfed my oldest daughter for 5 years! I never intended to do that but I am so glad that I did. I had already been practicing in women’s health prior to pregnancy but I have been able to deepen my practice through my own experiences. I have learned so much more about nursing, pediatrics and my own hormonal health through the process of walking the walk. For example, our 10 year old has never had a sick visit with a Western clinician!

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
Growing up I was often told that I was “sensitive.” Looking back, I can see that all of the health and emotional challenges of my childhood and early adulthood were related to my particular cellular, genetic and Chinese Medicine pattern or what we know as constitutional imbalances. Had I known how to identify these imbalances when I was younger my health journey would have most certainly looked different. I am certain that the changes in diet, lifestyle and supplementation have helped me to heal foundationally. I always say that I feel lucky to have found this medicine when I was in my 20s. If I hadn’t discovered acupuncture, Chinese medicine and herbalism I don’t know that I would have been able to get pregnant so easily, deliver easily and nurse my girls so easily. Now I am 40 and have a six month old and feel great! I truly feel that my success has been from listening to every woman who has sat in front of me and to all of the teachers and mentors I have had over the years and moreover, to my own body.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What important truth do very few people agree with you on?
I believe that the human body is truly remarkable and can heal itself. I truly believe there is an innate system that allows us to function and heal in amazing ways if we provide a proper foundation. This foundation does not need to be perfect! In fact, I would say it is important to vary your diet and lifestyle to build resilience. I am a really big fan of adaptogens (substances that act intelligently in the body to help while doing no harm) and like to extrapolate that idea beyond herbalism. I think that we must generally strengthen our system each day and overtime. This is the key! Not everyone adheres to this belief, but I feel rather strongly about it. I am not saying to take this to extremes, of course! If I get into a serious accident, I would undoubtedly want to go to the emergency room. I am just a really big fan of supporting the human body and allowing it to do the amazing things it is capable of doing first and foremost.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope that my children, my patients, and those who know me would all say that I made the world a better place. I truly want to help women come into their own power and find their strength as they heal and go through hormonal transitions. I am big on helping people find ways to allow their light to shine. They are not broken. Being “sensitive” can be your biggest strength if you allow it. I simply want my patients to find love for themselves and heal where they are as they are. I hope that I am able to hold that space and do what I do both in person and as I transition some of my work online so that more women can find their strength and benefit from my 13 years of experience and knowledge!
