An Inspired Chat with Nicole Toledo of Denver

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Nicole Toledo. Check out our conversation below.

Nicole, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
On a normal day, I start the day by trying to not look at my phone as long as I possibly could. I start by drinking water, having some caffeine (coffee or tea) , and eating a high protein breakfast (usually something with Greek yogurt berries), etc. By then my dog is barking at me to feed him. We also have chickens so they’re usually squawking at me to give them their favorite morning treat (corn). Then I start my getting ready process. I try to use my red light mask before starting my skincare and makeup process. I’m always listening to a podcast while I’m getting ready as I love to learn new things and get motivated for the day.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My makeup brand is one that strives to bring out the natural beauty of the client in my chair. I love to bring out the clients favorite features while also enhancing what I think are the most beautiful. I am a big fan of glowing healthy skin, soft enhanced brows, and making the eyes pop as much as possible. I find my clients are also fans of these things as well. I just want my clients to feel like the absolute best version of themselves.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
I had limiting beliefs of what I thought I could do professionally and what my life could look like. Now I know there are no boundaries or limitations. Just because you haven’t directly known someone who has achieved or done something does not mean that it is not possible. You could be the first. I am a big believer in hard work, perseverance, and in setting and achieving goals no matter how big.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
I believe that sometimes experiences that seem so difficult in the moment can actually be the things that teach you the biggest lessons and give you the most growth. Without setbacks or roadblocks you could never learn how strong you are and what you are capable of accomplishing. And that will continue to give you the confidence to try hard things and get out of your comfort zone.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
I think the beauty industry should be one that promotes confidence, self expression, self care, & creativity.
Instead, I’ve noticed a trend of everyone wanting to look the same as if there is only one standard of beauty. Also, sadly, the beauty industry often preys on insecurities and fears of aging or allowing skin to look like skin (pores, fine lines, breakouts).

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
If I retired tomorrow, I would miss the connections with my clients most. I would miss being part of their special days and moments. I would miss hearing their stories. I would miss the wisdom that I have gained over the years from so many who have sat in my chair.
