Let’s jump in with a fun one: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
That one is easy! Photography is so easy to get lost in. I love editing and playing with color.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Savannah Broeren. I’m the owner of Photography by Savannah Broeren and I mainly take photos of concerts and events, but I’d love to branch out more! My mission is to create an inclusive space within the photography community since I am a disabled photographer myself! I normalize it by showing up to events and making art in proud of!
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
A moment that shaped how I see the world is when I became a paraplegic at the hands of a nurse when I was 18. I was pretty cynical for a while. Nobody tells you how scary and how hard it is to have to relearn everything from eating to moving around. I was a photographer before then and while I can no longer get certain angles, I still do pretty well with the new ones I can get now! After taking photos as a paraplegic,
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
I think every artist contemplates giving up at some point. I certainly have. Usually I feel like giving up if I’ve spent more than 6 hours editing because it gets tedious!
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The biggest lie that the industry tells itself is that camera photos can’t be high quality. Some of today’s phone cameras are impressive. They won’t match professional camera quality, but if you can’t afford professional photos, a phone camera is good enough for post-able photos.
**I keep my prices very affordable and sometimes free if we can work something out**
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
I think customers would miss my prices if im being honest! I keep them very affordable because I can! It’s not my main source of income.
