Hi Scott, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Doing an entire show with all of my characters joining in, made me laugh way too much.
Listening back to the episode, I was so surprised with how I, as well as the listeners, could forget that there was only one person behind the microphone.
The ability to bounce back and forth, and even surprise myself with comedy, made me so proud of my product.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Scott DeHuff, host of the news, sports, comedy podcast – DeHuff Uncensored.
I’ve been in Denver media since 2002 – 18 years at 104.3 The Fan, and just over 4 years doing the podcast.
My show focuses on the comedic side of the news. Obscure, weird, funny stories. Plus, sports can be stuffy, so I like bringing an honest take to that world.
A lot of that is enhanced with several of my characters joining in. From Connery DeHuff, Cowboy DeHuff, Aussie DeHuff, or whatever random voices that comes out of my mouth.
Doing the show allows me to work with businesses that often don’t get the opportunity to spread the message of what produce.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
To focus on one individual would be a massive disrespect to so many people.
My brother Chris taught me to work hard or get replaced.
Scott Hastings taught me the art of comedy, and to embrace my talents.
Mike Evans continued the encouragement of trusting my abilities, and the idea of pushing beyond my comfort zone.
Mark Schlereth made sure I’d never forget to a triple-take and really think about the consequences of my actions. Otherwise an unwanted trip to the emergency room good be right around the corner.
Nate Lundy showed that it’s good to be competitive in business, but it’s also good to be compassionate with your competition.
And my wife teaches me constantly that it’s good to keep learning within my industry, and learn from everyone around me.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Success is built on failure. Make that a t-shirt.
The amount of times I failed, especially in media, forced me to dig deep, believe in myself, and move forward with the goal of my potential achievement dangling in front of my like a carrot… or a juicy burger. Both are acceptable images to help you strive for and obtain success.
In a different arena, or stadium, I help coach Little League baseball.
Teaching 11ish aged kids that you can learn a lot from a loss, is eye opening. Failure is painful, but if embraced, it will lead you in the right direction.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What do you believe is true but cannot prove?
Probably aliens. Not sure if you were expecting a different type of answer, but this is what I’m going with.
With the excitement and mystery of 3I Atlas, UAP sightings being so frequent, it’s fun to think about what our reality would become if alien life was found out to be fact.
Mainly, that could mean more listeners for my show. They could be a huge demographic for me.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That I enjoyed interacting with my customers/listeners.
Or by that time, I expect people to be confused by former Denver Bronco, Mark Schlereth breaking my rib.
Maybe by that time the story will morph into he and I joining the Kumite.
Mike Evans was our trainer who’s catchphrase was “OK, USA”
But honestly, the first thing is more likely.
