An Inspired Chat with Veronica Olga Hernandez

We recently had the chance to connect with Veronica Olga Hernandez and have shared our conversation below.

Veronica Olga, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What are you chasing, and what would happen if you stopped?
I continue to chase ways to help children without advocacy. I chase long standing solutions to show up for children that don’t have the support of their parents. Continuing this journey has led me to mental health support for the adults struggling to care for themselves first. The parents struggling with mental illness simply can’t advocate for their children because they struggle day to day with reality. I have found that the issue is not with the neglect as much as it is the mental health issues that the parents struggle to overcome. I believe that if I had stopped when I stretched the surface, I would not have come access more ways to support struggling families.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am author of Modern Guidance ™️ and founder of Sacred United Nonprofit. I currently have support and partnerships with Ace Towing and Car Sales, Advocate Tax Worldwide, Advocate Tax Resource Center and Jewel Collision. Together we have assisted Child Protective Services trauma Center Care, Basic needs for our unhoused community, funding for youth creative expression, Tax preparation assistance, Haircuts for Children and meals during competitive training classes for our youth. We have continued our mission in providing support for families in need.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child I believed that I was alone and did not have the love and support of others. Today I understand that I am not alone. I have daily reminders of the love and support of others. I felt alone and I believed that no one understood me. The moment I started to speak my truth, not only did my tribe grow but I learned that my story was relatable to others. I have had the privilege of joining forces with others that have the same mission in life. Together we continue to help others just like us.

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
The largest obstacle I have overcome is my own limiting beliefs. The defense mechanisms that I used to survive turned into my self sabotaging behavior. Unlearning what once saved me has been my greatest challenge ever. Growing from what shaped me is both terrifying and painful. I simply remind myself that growth and progress is not easy. I understand that my personal power and confidence is only possible if it’s earned. I believe I’m worth the effort and sacrifice of what no longer serves me.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Whose ideas do you rely on most that aren’t your own?
My big brother Jose “Sacred” Hernandez taught me to “always show love”. When I shut down and isolated myself, the only thing that brought me back were those words. I remember that my purpose is not about me. My value has always been attached to the people around me that I love. Showing love to others is what gives us all purpose. The love shown to me saved me. I believe that the love I show others can save them too.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What are you doing today that won’t pay off for 7–10 years?
What I do is priceless. Everything I do is out of love and respect. I never do anything with payment in mind. My heart drives me and I continue to prioritize support and service to others without any expectation of anything in return. I don’t expect anyone to ever reward me for my actions. I genuinely do things out of love.
