Bill Bradshaw shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Bill, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Although I love the work that I do, nothing makes me happier than my family. I have two amazing daughter, a great son-in-law, and two beautiful granddaughters.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, my name is Bill Bradshaw, and I am the owner of Best Tours of Denver and the Twilight Ghost Tour. I am a hands on owner, meaning that I personally manage the business, hand pick all of our tour guides, and I train each tour guide, before they are able to go out and conduct tours for the public. This personal investment, ensures that we delivering the best experience possible. We have a unique style of doing tours, putting quality first. One of the ways that we accomplish this is by offering smaller tour groups. We typically cap our tours at 20 participants. We work to entertain our customers, while delivering the most compelling stories. We specialize in history, haunts, and scandals, while treating our customers to the most entertaining and dedicated tours guides.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before staring Best Tours of Denver, I spent 37 years, managing jewelry stores. At some point, I came to realize that I wanted to expand my knowledge, and work towards doing something that I could do with passion, and that would give me a greater reward. While still working in the jewelry industry, I made a choice to return to school. Because I was working and going to college, it took me over 8 years to complete my education. I earned a bachelors degree in psychology and a masters degree in organization leadership and human resource management. I started the tour business, as to make additional money, while going to school. It ended up carving an unexpected path for me that I eventually chose to follow.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
I don’t know anyone who feels comfortable talking about personal fears; however, we all have them. in my case, fear has not really held me back, but delayed the process of following my dreams. In identifying the roadblocks of fear, it is really pretty simple; both the fear of failure as well as the fear of success, have contributed to second guessing myself. It really boils down to stepping out of my comfort zone, and pushing myself into the unknown.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
The public version of me is the real me. Of course, I have to step up my professional demeanor, when talking to customers, and other business people; however, I personally believe that living your authentic self is essential to better mental health and overall happiness. It addition, I think it is important to maintain your personal ideas about ethics and mutual respect, in the way I conduct my business.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Everyone enjoys praise and affirmation; however, they do not determine the motivation behind performing at the top of my game. In order to give my best, I have to remove all the distractions and personal hurdles that life throws at me. I have to keep my eye on the goal, and recognize that all of the negativities in life are merely temporary, while keeping my focus on the greater good. When praise does come my way, I use it as rewarding gift that makes me smile.
