Cassie Boyd shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Cassie, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
I am writing two different books. The first Book is a picture book, of hearts. When my mother died I asked her to send me a sign that she was there. About 2 months later I started seeing hearts everywhere, in the craziest places! Seriously. I share them on my social media, and friends started sharing the hearts they were finding too!!! I want to leave a legacy of love. It is a picture book of all the hearts she has sent, and then it will be the hearts that others have shared too. The second book is about how I have over come sexual abuse as a child. I want others to know that they don’t have to stay stuck, they can overcome anything. Leading by example.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Cassie. I have been in the beauty industry for 39 years. Through my journey, in the best career ever, I have had the opportunity to experience so much, and to help change so many peoples lives. I started behind the chair, and moved into the education world. This has brought me so much joy, and lead me down this path of opportunities. From traveling all over the USA training stylists to earn a better living, Being on the cover of Modern Salon Magazine for the hair extension company, Doing hair at the Playboy Mansion, assisting in starting a hair extension company, owning multiple salons, sponsoring all of the professional dance teams in Denver. I have done hair for movies, tv commercials, also fulfilling the want to move to San Diego. I found the hair extension company that have now been with for 9 years. I get to travel all over training stylists on how to become six figure income stylists. I am overwhelmed every day that this is my life.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
The person that taught me the most about work is my mentor Josif Wittnik. He started cutting my hair at 16, and saw in me what I did not. He said, Cassie, you really should go to beauty school when you graduate. I did that that! I then worked at the salon he worked, and I was his apprentice. I followed everything he said, and my journey began. With all things I mentioned, I am now Secretary of the Board of his non Profit, Trim Hunger. We feed food insecurities. His work ethic, and passion for our industry has built that in me. He continues to lead by example.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
The wounds I have experienced as a child from sexual abuse from my mother, and my male cousin were traumatic. No child should have to experience this. Unfortunately it is happening all the time. It took me a minute to forgive both. I think that is the key. You have to forgive the abuser in order to move on. When I came to that place in my life, the peace set in. I knew I had to before my mother passed away. That is why the book is so important, to help others to not stay in victim mode, and move on for all that is waiting for you !
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
The person that admire for their character and not their power is my mentor Josif Wittnik. He truly wants to make a difference in his clients challenges. He has been in the hair loss world for over 40 years. He had a non profit, giving wigs to women going through cancer and needing wigs, for free. It is very expensive to purchase them. There is no power from this man ever. It is only giving back in anyway he can.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I know they will talk about the love in the hearts I share. My passion for what I do. Changing lives, sharing hearts and love to everyone. The hearts that I share, the passion that I have when I go into salon across the country wanting them to work less and financially make more to fulfill their dreams. I hope that lives on forever.
