Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Shaver.
Hi Aaron, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was a competitive swimmer starting at 8 and going through college. I developed a shoulder injury in my sophomore year and struggled to find answers to the issues I was having. I eventually did find some people that helped me but I was forced to do a lot of experimenting on my own to address my injury. I returned to swimming competitively but it took a huge effort on my part. This is what inspired me to become a physical therapist. After I earned my DPT, I was lucky enough to work for a clinic practicing Muscle Activation Technique (MAT). I have spent the last 6 and a half years practicing and refining my MAT skills which allow me to resolve an extremely wide variety of musculoskeletal issues for all kinds of people.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Becoming a competent MAT practitioner requires years of practice. There have been people along the way I was unable to help and that was really difficult for me in the beginning. I desperately wanted to make big impact for everyone I treated. But it was the challenging patients that made me continue to practice and improve my skills. I am always reflecting on the complicated cases in an effort to improve my process and be ready for whoever walks into my office.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m known for Muscle Activation Technique (MAT). Muscle Activation Technique (MAT) is a hands-on, non-medical method that helps muscles work better. When some muscles are weak, the body tightens up to protect itself. MAT finds and fixes these weak muscles by helping the brain connect with them again. This helps reduce tightness, improve movement, decrease pain and bring better balance and stability to the body.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I really appreciate the access we have to the mountains. You’ll find me at A-Basin all winter skiing as fast as I can!
