Check Out Adam Anglin’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Anglin

Hi Adam, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started painting at the beginning of 2023. My background is music and design. I grew up painting, but I really came back to it in 2023 as a way to invest in my mental health and as a way of expressing myself in a medium that wasn’t tied to anything else on my life, professionally or personally. I needed to find something for me. From there I’ve been slowing building this fine art business through the generosity of friends and connections I’ve made. I’ve had the privilege of being in a handful of shows and fine art festivals. In 2024 I was named as one of five “emerging artists’ for the Cherry Creek Arts Festival and named to Saatchi Art’s list of ” 2024 rising stars”. I was also featured in 2 print publications, Aedra Fine Arts and Create! Magazine (issue 48). I also had the good fortune of doing my first solo gallery show in Boulder, CO. This year I’m focusing on continuing to find my voice as an artist and I’m exploring doing more festivals outside of the state.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s weirdly been somewhat of a smooth road. I think part of this is just perspective. I can’t live and die on every win or failure and I think being an artist requires you to have the long game in mind. I’ve certainly stubbed my toe a bit and will continue to, but enjoying your work, being present in it, and being grateful for the support when you experience a sale or a connection or a win (however you define that) is key. If I were to name some struggles along the way, it’s mostly exposure. How do I get what I’m doing in front of as many people as possible to find the right audience for particular style. I don’t know the answer, but I’m enjoying the process of figuring that out.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a landscape painter who uses color-field and abstract motifs within my work. I’m most interested in the intersection of synthetic and organic forms. I like making work that is colorful and visceral. I want my work to pull the viewer in and keep them engaged. I think the work speaks for itself in terms of communicating my singular voice. I don’t think it looks like anything else. I’m most proud of this reality. I have a deep fondness for abstract and landscape work so bringing these worlds together is essential for me to feel like I’m living into my full self as an artist. I love traditional methods of painting with oil and acrylic paint on canvas and wood panel.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I’m a spiritual person so the bible has been essential for me. Rick Ruben’s “the creative act” has also been a source of inspiration, I love having comprehensive art books of artists I love, think coffee table style, so my house is filled with these. Hans Hofmann, Matise, Van Gogh, Pop Art movement, etc. I’m not big on leveraging tech in this way. I don’t have anything against it, I’m just not very good at it. I think it’s why I like using my hands and making traditional work.
