Today we’d like to introduce you to Aimee Alvarez.
Aimee, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My husband and I had found out on February 27th, 2020 that we were expecting our rainbow baby. We were excited and emotional regardless of the pandemic snowball that was beginning to roll in. As the months passed on my husband who was a line cook, was struggling to keep up his hours. We couldn’t depend on my income as a medical assistant. So, what other options did we have to bring in an income? That’s when Instacart came in to save us for a short period. It helped grow our communication skills.
Slowly the amount of orders started to slow down so we had to look for another way to bring in money. My husband turned to his stepfather who has a construction company and started to work together. While looking for contractors willing to hire them, my husband discovered a company that wanted to hire him directly. This company was a blessing in disguise for our growing family.
Through his time there, he was able to build various skills sets that helped him build enough confidence to start his own remodeling company. Because we work as a team, I had taken the challenge to be his virtual assistant. I had my own doubts of being able to promote his business and get his name out there. But little by little I was able to create his social media pages and begin to build his circle. Not only was he learning to create his business, but I was also learning how to manage it for him. He brought me out of my shell, I am able to carry on a conversation about his work without hesitation.
No one taught us how to promote a business or build a website, this all was coming together the more research we did. And because of that confidence boost, I was able to venture out on my own to start training as a nail tech. I was no longer afraid to just go out into this world and go after what I wanted. This was all thanks to our son, he was the biggest motivator we ever had. We never stop because we always want to keep moving forward. We want to show him that no matter what you choose in life, you go 100% into it and don’t look back. One way or the other you will learn what you were meant to learn.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Struggles that we faced were financially related. My husband was not being paid well by his stepdad and my due date was getting very close. We didn’t have a set plan for my maternity leave and everything pretty much was sitting on my husband’s shoulders. At that time, we were not sure if we could start a business or where to start. We just trusted in God’s plan to see where He would guide us.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a medical assistant at an orthopedic clinic. I have been a medical assistant for 11 years now and have mainly focused on cardiology. I wanted to get into healthcare because I love to help others improve their life. Seeing patients come back to your office and remember who you are, simply because you were there to help even in the smallest ways… gives you a feeling of accomplishment you can’t even explain.
I am proud that I was able to overcome my comfort level and take on a new challenge. I left my cardiology clinic after being there for five years. I was ready for a change in my pace and decided to look for a new employer. One that would work better with my new mom life routine.
That’s when I found my current clinic that is only a 5 min away from my house and my mothers who takes care of my son.
Something that sets me apart from others is my attention to detail. I can become very focused but I always make sure I am aware of everything around me.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was very shy as a younger child. I loved to read books day and night, I was always into sports and did all that I could to achieve my own goals in each sport. At one point I was also labeled a drama queen because of my fantastic dramatic reactions.
