Today we’d like to introduce you to AJ Foxx
Hi AJ, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always had a passion for events. Ever since I was a kid, seeing the city shut down main streets for pop-up markets with tents and tables of goodies would get my heart racing with excitement. As I grew up, I became that friend who always ‘knew a guy’ for everything. I had this mental Rolodex of people and their skills, and I loved making connections and building bridges where needed.
In my early twenties, I started diving into the event scene, helping out at weddings and eventually working my way up to a junior wedding planner. I also explored other creative avenues, becoming a brand ambassador and model. This led me to meet Rufio and AJ Ritual from Ritual Noize & RU Entertainment, who gave me my first chance to book vendors for their events.
That initial gig has since evolved into a full-fledged business, Sobremesa Creative Solutions, over the last five years. I’ve had the privilege of working with numerous venues, producers, and events in Denver. Now, I get to book vendors and manage production (SHARE Denver) for various events, and I absolutely love every bit of it.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been an easy road. In any creative industry, you face your fair share of struggles. Personally, I’ve had to overcome—and still deal with—things like imposter syndrome. I always strive to be more organized, streamlined, and professional. But at the end of the day, we’re humans dealing with other humans and our passions. That means things can get messy, and you need to be adaptable and not easily discouraged when things don’t go as planned.
Handling multiple events can quickly lead to burnout. I’ve managed to reduce that stress by building a team I trust and can delegate responsibilities to, so I’m not taking on everything myself. Using all the resources available is crucial. Thankfully, I don’t get too stressed out long-term. Anything stressful tends to work itself out with a good attitude and a proper reset.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I do vendor management, social media management, and production management—basically, I support events and small businesses. My main focus is vendor management because that’s where my passion truly lies. I love building a team of vendors for events that fit the theme while also supporting local artists. It’s all about creating spaces where their art and passion can thrive and be appreciated by the community.
Booking talent for events is another aspect I enjoy, especially working with marginalized communities. As a queer, BIPOC, ambiamorous, and gender-fluid person, I prioritize collaborating with artists and creatives from the LGBTQA+, BIPOC, body/sex-positive, and other underrepresented communities. I believe in being the change you want to see in the world.
What sets me apart is the personal relationship I cultivate with everyone I work with. I treat people as individuals, not just as a means to an end. My goal is to foster a reciprocal, loving, and collaborative energy exchange, acting as the liaison between venues, vendors, performers, and producers. I’m very solution-focused and strive to create an environment where everyone feels valued and supported.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is living a life where I feel truly authentic and providing opportunities and spaces where others can do the same. That’s really my mission statement in all of this. I want to be myself and put the art I love into the world, and I want you to have the chance to do the same.
