Today we’re excited to be connecting with Alakananda Ma again. If you haven’t already, we suggest you check out our prior conversation with them here.
Alakananda, always such a pleasure connecting with you and thank you for sharing your stories, insights and inspiring messages with our community. We’re looking forward to getting the download and what you have been up to since our last interview, but first can you briefly introduce yourself to folks who might have missed the prior conversation.
I’m Alakananda Ma and I have been teaching and practicing Ayurveda in Boulder since 1988. I am the founder and principal of Alandi Ayurveda Gurukula and senior practitioner at Alandi Ayurveda Clinic. I also have a strong background in Western Medicine, having studied in an acclaimed London University medical school.
Alandi Ayurveda Gurukula is an intimate and innovative school of Ayurveda where students have the rare opportunity to be part of a real community in an in-person program. Our unique two and four year programs consist of a combination of small-group education, experiential study, clinical practice, herbal medicine making and the daily guidance I and other faculty offer.
In Alandi Ayurveda Clinic, we listen with deep awareness to your health concerns, assess your unique constitution according to Ayurveda, and provide you with completely individualized treatments and herbal preparations that support your holistic health. We also have a student clinic, though which you can book a low cost wellness package and be part of our students’ learning journey.
Great, so let’s jump into an update on what you have been up to since we last spoke. What can you share with us?
It has been a challenging journey navigating the COVID lockdown and Boulder’s soaring real estate prices, Our beautiful ashram was sold from under us, only to be bought by a neighbour who is our new landlord. Rent has soared, creating a big sustainability issue. But there has also been an upside, as the new owner turned our garage into a beautiful classroom. Come and take a look.
I’m excited about two new offerings. I have started a podcast, “Ayurveda and Spirituality with Alakananda Ma”. And we have also created some self-paced courses. Now you can deepen your understanding of your health by learning with me from the comfort and convenience of your home.
Alright, so let’s do something a bit more fast-paced and lighthearted. We call this our lightning round and we’ll ask you a few quick questions.
- Mountains or Beach: Both.
- Did you play sports growing up (if so which ones): No, hated sports.
- As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up: A doctor
- Favorite Breakfast Food: Kichari
What are you most excited about in the coming year?
I,’m really excited about my podcast, which gives the opportunity to share the teachings with a wider audience. I’m also excited that we have restarted our two year practitioner program, providing accessibility to our gurukula for a wider range of people
