Today we’d like to introduce you to Alaura Johnson
Hi Alaura, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
How I Combined Esthetics and Healthcare
My name is Alaura and I am currently a Licensed Esthetician, Certified Laser Specialist and Medical Assistant with skills in advanced esthetic modalities. I have personally handled clients of all demographics and I am passionate about providing result based care for all who seek treatment in both holistic and medical settings. I began my educational journey with the fundamental Esthetician Certification. I completed a board-approved esthetics program that consisted of 600 plus hours of training. The program covered topics such as facials, skincare, facial makeup, hair removal, laws and regulations, management, ethics, interpersonal skills, salesmanship, disinfection, cleaning, and safe work practices. The training also included skin analysis, conditions, contraindications, aftercare, product ingredients, and chemical peel treatment procedures. Once I completed my 600 plus hours I passed both a written and practical examination to become a Licenced Esthetician in the Colorful state of Colorado.
Once I had the fundamental skills under my belt, I acquired advanced certifications in: Microdermabrasion (14 hours,) Chemical Peels (24 hours,) Dermaplaning, Lash Lift, and Barbicide Covid-19 for the Professional Beauty Industry Training- Merit at Emily Griffith Technical College. Microneedling (6 hours) at Lash and Company Education. Introduction to Beauty Therapy- CPD- by Alison. Clean Touch and Treating Melanin Rich Skin by Dermalogica. How to Perform a Completely Customized Peel and Brazilian Waxing by Milady. Be Healthy Initiative by Barbicide. Coreless Sun by NORVELL. LED Certification by LightStim. Followed by, O2toDerm Oxygen + LED Dome by GLOWNAR.
To better my chances at employment at a Med Spa, I furthered my education to become a Certified Laser Specialist at Rocky Mountain Laser College, where I completed the following courses: Laser Safety Training: 20156, and Aesthetic Laser & IPL Training. In Between my educational Journey, I miraculously met a wonderful mentor, Lorenzo Kunz, the original founder of Rocky Mountain Laser College, who graciously granted me the opportunity to intern at Inkless, a state renowned laser tattoo removal company. Kunz educated me on Laser Hair Reduction by Cervello and Epidermal Skin Imperfections by ThermoClear where I obtained certifications in which I practice in my career today.
To better my career as an Esthetician, I attended Medical Assistant school, where I became a BLS Provider accompanied with CPR and AED by the American Heart Association. I interned at Cdermatology where I completed 200 hours. During my time at a Cdermatology, I acquired skills in medical scribing, patient screening, rooming patients patient scheduling, electronic health records, suture removal and tray set ups of a vigorous multitude of visits. I describe myself as an entrepreneur as I have helped to organize new services that Centre Salons and Spa located in Arvada, Colorado has to offer. Being an Entrepreneur means to undertake and do something, and that is exactly what I did with Centre Salons to build and grow a market in the laser hair removal industry. I am very proud of the brainstorms and networking that I have been able to unfold. To me being an entrepreneur means having an entrepreneurial mindset, identifying opportunities, and taking risks to create value and problem solve, being a risk taker in investing into education, and resources without the guarantee of optimal success and revenue. Creating one of the biggest entrepreneurial ventures can come with merging the ideas of others and taking them into action. I am proud of all that I have been able to accomplish, and I am excited for what the future has to hold for both myself and the new services offered at Centre Salons located in Arvada Colorado.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The hardships, where do I begin? There are countless struggles that I have had to endure, however, I like to stay positive and say that the good outweighs the bad. I initially was delayed in my career to becoming an Esthetician, due to the COVID- 19 epidemic. However, if it didn’t play out the way it did, I would not have had the good instructor that I ended up with. My PSI form to take the state board test was delayed by months due to a simple error on the registration form. However, while that time period was a bummer, I utilized my skills at my job to stay fresh on my skills for the examinations. During Laser school, my whole basement flooded, destroying textbooks, and putting me in a mental strain. I used that time as a reflection to remember that the education I have obtained is within me and not solely in my textbooks. Before Medical Assistant school, the college switched to a different software which completely erased my application and documentations, which I had to start over from scratch in a time crunch. There was much frustration during that time but a wonderful coordinator at my school helped me from scratch. I remember how hard it was to gather all of the scrubs that I would need for my schooling and future career. I slowly acquired them and I have used them for years. I remember how hard it was to find parking downtown for my collages and I am very happy to say that I can move past those days. But with all the bad, there was so much good that came out of it.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in Laser Hair Removal and Electrodesiccation. Laser hair removal is a procedure that uses a concentrated beam of light (laser) to remove unwanted hair. During laser hair removal, a laser beam emits light that is absorbed by the pigment (melanin) in the hair. Electrodesiccation is the drying of tissue by a high-frequency electrical current applied with a needle-shaped electrode. I am known as the Laser hair Removal Technician and the Radio Frequency Technician by my peers. I am most proud of my opportunity of being mentored by Lorenzo Kunz who taught me in detail how to perform various services related to my job.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I like that my home City Denver is known for the good opportunities, I dislike the drastic fluctuation between the social classes. This is an abstract idea that can be put up to the imagination.
