Today we’d like to introduce you to Alec Hollingsworth.
Hi Alec, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve been in love with music since I began playing bass at age 11. From there, it grew into a love for electronic music, and from there a love for creating electronic music.
I started producing in 2019, and I was able to dedicate long hours during the COVID year. Producing became my religion for a year, and I committed myself to learning every aspect of production.
In 2021, I began playing live shows and fell in love again.
In 2022, I moved to Denver to surround myself with like-minded people and good music.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest struggle is time. It will always be time. Music doesn’t pay the bills, at least not yet. I’ve been working full-time, and before that, I was in graduate school.
I have found that many successful producers were able to find non-traditional jobs and living situations, as a means to pour themselves into their music. You simply cannot become great at something if you aren’t able to put in enough time.
I have an intense focus on time management and efficiency in my life. Without it, I could not make music.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Myself and a others have been pushing a genre we call “organic bass” or “experimental bass” for years now. It weaves electronic music with organic sounds and complex songwriting. Focused on smooth sound design and emotional progressions, it doesn’t quite have a spot in the world of electronic music just yet.
I specialize in genre-bending other genres with this genre. My works include elements of UK Garage, Drum N Bass, Dubstep, RnB, Jazz, and many more.
Any big plans?
I’ve hit a lot of my goals with this project. It has grown larger than I ever intended it to be. There is one goal that I dream of – playing Red Rocks. Once my name is on the plaque in the museum – my more traditional family members who question what the hell I am doing won’t be able to deny the success of the project.
