Check Out Alejandro Lopez’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alejandro Lopez.

Alejandro Lopez

Hi Alejandro, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Honestly my whole journey in this industry really began from a photoshoot I did with my friend Ashton from college and this was all for fun down in downtown Denver. This was really the first time I’ve ever been in front of a lens since I wasn’t always the most comfortable having my picture taken since my weight loss journey of going from 225lb – 135lb. After posting that photoshoot within 2 weeks I got messages on instagram from people asking if I wanted to think about doing modeling. With doing research from all the different ones I ended up signing with my agency SWMT Denver to get me going. Early on I started attending open casting for runway and print jobs just to get the feel and make friends and see what it was all about and this was all fun and games to me.Until I started getting booked show after show in my first 8-12 months of modeling. Doing almost 2-3 shows every month , photo shoots, 2 magazine publications, editorial jobs and trying to balance school was something I’d do all over again because in those months I learned and grew so much in this industry. That it ultimately led me to get cast for my first NYFW season which I was able to walk for 2 amazing designers (Inspired d signs , Guantana Customs) in two amazing productions . Now being 2024 I’m so glad and happy of all the connections, memories, and special moments I’ve been able to experience. From Denver fashion week 2023-2024 , NYFW fall SS23 , and NYFW spring SS24 all of these are productions if you were to say 4 years ago this is what I was going to be doing I would’ve laughed in your face because this was not at all in my future. But I wouldn’t trade it for anything now and ready for what’s next to come and even bigger projects in the future 🙂

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not being that I’m on the shorter side of Male models it’s tough going into a room of people that all have the height of 6’1 +. But I found that I can’t focus on what I think casting directors are going to like because we don’t know what they are looking for. Since at the start of my journey I would just copy what the other male models would be in terms of runway and photography, but for me something about the stereotypical male runway stiff walk didn’t click with me . So I started playing around with my walk and see what I thought fit my personality and looks best. Which ultimately led me to get recognized not only from booking shows and making connections but having people know me for my walk on the runway and online is something that always just makes me feel like I’m going in the right step. Even having NYC designers comment on my runway walk videos is something I freak out over not because they’re a brand I want to walk for but because they like me for me

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Outside of modeling I’m a full time student at the University of Colorado Boulder working towards my undergrad in psychology and a minor in business. This is going to be my last year so trying to make the most out of it since time really flew with my schedule feeling like it never stops.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
I would definitely say the biggest lesson I’ve learned in modeling is not only to be true to yourself but to surround yourself with people that make it worth it to keep doing this. Having a family in this industry is what keeps me grounded because without people I can fall back to for support I don’t think I would be able to do this. Like my friend Ashlee Stephenson she went from being the first person to my hair at my first fashion show to us being booked and flying out together and walk in NYFW. She will always and continues to be my mentor and closest friend in this industry. But designers , production teams , makeup , hair , all these incredible people are what make this journey worth while. So always take a risk and do something you never thought you could do because you never know what it might snowball into
