Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandra Mellott.

Hi Alexandra, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I was born and raised in Denver, CO, with a bit of a rough upbringing but my life really turned around when I was adopted at 12 by a single father of 3! I fell into the beauty industry after years of trial and error trying to learn to do hair and makeup on myself and not having a mom to show me. After finishing school at CU boulder with an art degree I knew I wanted to use my creative side in whatever line of work I chose and ended up finding a mentor in Karal Stutz who did my color while I was in college. She encouraged me to go to cosmetology school and get licensed since I enjoyed doing hair and makeup so much. After graduation and getting trained in lashes which were new to the beauty industry and working for Karal for a few years I left Boulder and moved back to Denver where I started Alexa’s Luxe Lashes! Being OCD and Naturally meticulous person, I was drawn to all form of extensions and fell in love with the detailed work! I now own a med spa with my friend Jess Clarke Higgins by Wash Park on south pearl street in Denver!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It wasn’t always a smooth road, I worked at adult entertainment clubs in Denver to make ends meet and pay for school so I wouldn’t have to take out loans. I am so Grateful for my amazing adoptive dad Keith but definitely felt lost at times without having a mother to help me make good decisions and point me in the right direction in our male-dominated world.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in all forms of hair and lash extensions. Not only does that form of work take additional training outside of your traditional licensing in Cosmetology but it’s also very detailed work that requires a lot of patience. I like using my creative side when doing lashes to create a completely customizable look that is not only unique to each individual and their eye shape but also meets the clients’ wants and needs for their lifestyle. For hair extensions I am specifically talented at color matching and creating a flawless look, hair extensions are becoming more and more popular and I’ve found the key to a seamless set is having the color absolutely perfect so you can’t tell you even have them. I have also found the industry to be wildly overpriced in both these areas so I strive to keep my prices low so anyone can afford them and feel their best, I don’t believe in charging what I wouldn’t willing to pay myself.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Find someone who has the same goals as you as well as style and cleanliness! In the beauty industry a lot of people are messy or disorganized, being more focused on their creative side, which is totally ok but I thrive and stay focused best in organized environments so finding someone like Karal who was as detailed and meticulous as I was helped me tremendously!
