Check Out Alexandra Rose’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandra Rose

Hi Alexandra, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My art story began at a very young age as I explored both dance and writing around age 5 (and most likely before this as well…). Both of these art forms became a part of my being throughout childhood and I continue to carry them forward with me wherever I go. I thank these aspects of my experience because they taught me that I am a creative soul – something that I believe we all hold within. In elementary school, I published poetry twice as part of collective poetry contests both locally and nationally. In high school, I began to experiment with new forms of art including drawing, painting, and pottery. Painting and drawing grabbed hold of my soul and I took off with these, exploring both photo-realistic and abstract concepts.

As a young adult, my roommate and I began to hold impromptu art groups at our apartment, enjoying the company of friends as we created both individual and collaborative paintings with the Planet Earth series playing in the background. I still keep some of these paintings in a memory box to remember the beauty of what we were doing together, without even realizing the power that this creative encouragement held for our dear friends.

All this time, I did not claim to be an artist. So, I quietly cultivated my crafts in the realm of writing, visual art, and wearable art over the years. As they developed, it became apparent that these were something to be shared. I had various individuals offer to purchase art pieces, which aided in encouraging owning my artistic identity. Additionally, I fell in love with working in tandem with the earth. This started to influence my art even more deeply and has lent itself to new avenues for artistic expression that continue to develop, such as dried flower art, botanical anatomy art, weaving, etc.

During my life, various avenues of work as well as volunteering have brought me to a place of passion for gathering with community and engaging in community projects. There’s a deep cultural healing to be found in the power of community; I want to bring my personal gifts and skills to the table to gather community, encouraging social shifts to happen subtly.

This is where Alexandra’s Rose was born, out of a desire to destroy the “I’m not creative” lie. I feel inspired to aid others in recognizing the power of their own creative abilities and inspirations, through both my own art as well as guided artistic experiences for community members.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This doesn’t feel like the smoothest of roads all of the time. It has been quite a journey to even recognize my own creative potential and artistic identity.

The biggest struggle is developing the ability to recognize that true artistry comes from within, rather that from external validation or recognition. Though art has been my personal therapy practice for most of my life, I’ve only recently begun to experience the understanding that this is something to nurture and share.

From there, I have struggled with honing in on specific areas of focus. An overarching question has been, “what do I want to do with this business”. This is something that a lot of creatives will understand – it’s incredibly difficult to narrow focus in a world of inspiration and ways to express oneself artistically!

Additionally, I have a deep aversion to most social media, so coming to terms with modern marketing avenues has been a personal struggle. I’ve landed on the decision to create an Instagram account for Alexandra’s Rose (coming soon)!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I like to share that my work is to provide “good medicine” for the soul. My mission in life is to live authentically while creating lasting, beneficial change for the next seven generations. Both work and joy for me in this world focuses around art, nature-based education, cultivating natural spaces, fostering connection with Creator, our own creative self, and our community, as well as stewarding my amazing family.

As a business, Alexandra’s Rose brings various forms of creativity to the table. There is my own personal art of various forms such as paintings, drawings, wearable art, dried flower art, etc. – both my personal and commissioned art is available for purchase.
Another side of the business is the offering of opportunities that encourage others to take time/space for soul expression through creative education and exercises that elevate our innate purposes as creative beings. I offer one-on-one, private group, and community art experiences that focus on unleashing creative expression in a space free from self-judgment.

I feel proud that I’ve developed both platform and opportunity to begin destroying the “I’m not creative” lie. It is a deep belief of mine that we are all creative beings and our collective creative thinking holds the potential to truly change this world for the better.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
For me, it felt like an incredibly powerful opportunity for cultural awareness. There were many cultural wounds that began to either gain deeper collective understanding or seemed to just continue to hurt deeper. Though, I observed much less tolerance for violated boundaries both individually and collectively.

A lesson that seems to continually encompass my understanding of what we all have experienced is that our wellness is dependent on community. We are communal creatures that rely on and flourish within strong, healthy ecosystems. Humanity got away from this truth in recent times; I feel that we went through this collective fever to flush out some highly toxic cultural and individual patterns.

Though, it all felt and often still feels tumultuous with everything going on in the world, I find that my hope in humanity’s intrinsic need for goodness and peace has been strengthened. I think that all of our relations have a base desire for sustainable joy. We are simply on a collective journey to figure out how to truly see each other through a lens of both compassion and love.
