Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Joy.
Hi Alicia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was living and working on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon at the time. There was an index card on the corkboard at the post office announcing a massage class. I called and signed up. The teacher, Annette S, asked me to stay to speak with her after the first class. She informed me that I had the gift for massage. She offered to teach me all she knew if I would be her assistant for all her classes. I agreed and took all 3 classes. I became the backup massage therapist when Annette was out of town on weekends.
To live in Grand Canyon National Park you must be employed inside the park. I was a general accounting supervisor for the concessionaire. After 6 years there I met Jim Joy who inspired me to move to Denver.
I found work at Quark, Inc., then Echostar Technologies, and JD Edward’s: Oracle. I very much enjoyed learning about Inventory and Manufacturing processes. I was in product support helping customers on the phone. The massage was a hobby during these years.
I came to a point where I wanted to be supportive of people at a more personal level rather than at their jobs. I researched massage schools in the Denver area and found the Denver Integrative Massage School. I registered for their professional program and achieved my Colorado license within a year. I opened my first office in Olde Town Arvada and also joined the Arvada Chamber of Commerce.
I have lived in Arvada for 20 years. Living and working in your community reduces life stress greatly. I moved my office after 5 years to its current location off 66th & Wadsworth. I have a passion for massage work. I enjoy helping people, meeting their stress, and transforming it.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I was always “back of the house” doing operations work. I had no experience in the sales and marketing, customer-facing side. Where do clients come from!? I’m an introvert.
It is tough to get myself out in public to recruit customers. The Arvada Chamber of Commerce was fantastic. I found all the right people to achieve this crucial task. As I learned, massage is a word-of-mouth business. In this age, that means a great website. I found Personable Media through the Chamber.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m analytical and creative.
I bring creativity into the massage work via clairsentient, claircognizance, and empathic abilities. I’m working from a space of intuitive, compassionate Knowing. When I feel I need a few new clients, I sit down and in a meditation I ask for the people who can most benefit from my gifts to find me and they do.
What were you like growing up?
I was introverted, pensive, and reserved; still am. I enjoyed sewing my own clothes. I love stained glass with light streaming through it. I was a fan of Louis Comfort Tiffany. I work with light now as a quantum light energy coach.
As a teenager, I read H.P. Lovecraft, Ray Bradbury, and other horror books. I moved on to Science Fiction and discovered quantum physics.
