Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Ryan.
Hi Amber, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was always a dancer. When I met my teacher, the late great Gabrielle Roth, I started to understand that we are all movers. Everyone who has a body is a mover. And since we are all here in physical human bodies, let’s learn how to fully inhabit them. The human body contains infinite wisdom if we listen. Over the past two decades, I have been devoted to bringing people into a deeper connection with their bodies through music and dance and activating the body as a place of wisdom, pleasure, and presence. I got to where I am today through commitment, exploration, tenacity, passion, and devotion.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
What I offer to communities around the globe is out of the box. It is the path of the artist healer. It does not come with a 401K. It takes a deep sense of knowing of one’s soul path to stay committed through the challenges. Many artists give up the path of security for the hope of making a difference and creating meaning in the world. This has been my path.
One of the biggest challenges I have met was setting sail from leading the extraordinary practice of the 5Rhythms which was created to help get us westerns out of our heads and into our feet, tapping into 5 distinct states of being as a potential gateway into trance, into going off the map with my friend and colleague, Kate Shela, to allow a new body of work to be cultivated in this time where the ancient wisdom and our modern needs are more available and evident than ever. Kate and I took the leap for our own artistic freedom, and the courageous move to see what else wanted to emerge for our community and our world. Through this, The 360 Emergence was born. This took great trust and deep knowing. This was one of the hardest things I have done; leaving the known for what is possible.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As an artist, there are many skills that go into bringing folks not only into their body but in communion with their soul path. I am a movement teacher, dj, and person who can see where physical, energetic or emotional blocks may have manifested that can literally be moved out of the way to create more congruence and enjoyment in people’s lives. Some of my biggest joys are when an entire group of people drops into what we call the unified field to experience a state of collective ecstasy. This is heaven on earth to me. This is the place where real change can happen.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I think one surprising thing that most folks don’t know about me is that I am actually quite introverted. As a dancer, movement is my first language, and I have challenged myself in this life to be more verbal and vocal and outwardly articulate to meet my appointment here on the planet. Yet, outside of holding space for groups, I am actually pretty quiet and prefer the company of one or two people as opposed to socializing in large groups – unless it’s a concert or dance floor – I am happy in a crowd being held by the beat.
