Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Brophy.
Hi Amy, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Colorado and grew up as a swimmer. I’ve coached all levels of swimmers from toddlers to Olympic trials athletes and Olympic triathletes. A year before the pandemic I got burnt out on coaching swimming. I needed a new direction, a totally different take on life. I got a job at a brewery. Then the pandemic hit. While deeply grateful for a job in which I got to be with people and collect a paycheck, I realized that I wanted to connect with people on a deeper level in my professional life. A friend suggested I might like life coaching. As I explored this suggestion, I realized it’s the kind of coaching I’ve always done in or out of the water. I was never interested in just coaching swimming. Rather, I always tried to make people better through swimming. I wanted them to define success the way they wanted in the pool. Once I started life coaching, I realized I didn’t need the pool to help people succeed in the life they wanted. It’s been a fantastic year and I can’t wait for more!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been fairly smooth as far as start-ups go. It’s always a challenge to balance life, job, and starting a new career. But with help from friends, family, and my own business coach, I’ve been able to navigate the road so far. I really believe you shouldn’t have to do anything by yourself, it definitely takes a village to grow anything. I really want to be a part of people’s journey in life, to help give them tools to get to where they want to go. I rely on so many people to help me get my business up and running, and I want to be there for others in helping them get their lives up and running.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a life coach and I specialize in coaching young adults who are in college and trying to figure out what they want their life to look like. That’s the short answer! When I was in my 20s and even in my 30’s, I was so lost, I didn’t know who I wanted to be or what I wanted to be. I wish I had someone like me to help guide me, to have the life experience to give me tools to figure out what I wanted my life to be. I didn’t end up finishing college until I was in my 30’s and I am just now figuring out what I want to do and who I want to be. I don’t think I would change much of my journey, but I would like to help others find their path a little more quickly! I think that it’s this kind of life experience that allows me to more fully help others in getting all they can out of life. I am passionate about helping people find what they truly want. It’s been so wonderful to see my client’s growth and progression in areas that they felt stuck in before. I feel so fortunate to be able to be a coach for people.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
What’s always worked well for me is to simply have conversations with people. Talk to them, ask questions, be curious and listen. I’m definitely a people person so having conversations with different people is not hard for me. I really love it and I always find that whomever I’m talking with has a little something for me. I’m always learning from others.
