Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Cole.
Hi Andrew, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I was a cook and a chef in my first career. After more than a decade I decided to find something else. After attending community college I was still looking for a direction, after pursuing a couple of different options I stumbled into building food trucks. It started as a project with friends. One of the guys I had worked with was building his own truck, and we would hang out on weekends and work on this truck. As we were finishing up his build one approached us to build another. So my first business partner and I decided to do it. After building that first truck for a customer I began to think this may be a good business opportunity. The original person I was working with and I ended off not seeing eye to eye on many things so we ended that business. I did still think that there was potential in this industry. What the true beginning of Foco Food Trucks was being contacted by the Larimer County Food Bank. They needed a truck for their summer meals program. This was the perfect situation for me to push to start this business. I had come from a family that used programs like this, and I felt this build would be a great way to give back. To get this project and start this business I needed help. So I reached out to a long-time friend and he and I started FCFT together,
We started to build trucks in my driveway for the first few years, eventually moving into a small shop where we are today. There is quite a bit more to some of this and a bit more that has happened since. Along the way, we have had a lot of support from people in our lives and our larger community.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. We have had a few challenges.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I have been lucky enough to have a very talented guy who now has been working with me for almost 4 years. We met through his girlfriend, whom I was costarring in a local theater production. He is an amazing craftsperson who cares about whatever he does. I am quite lucky to have him
What do you think about luck?
I have had a great deal of luck come along in the life of the business.
From the neighbors who tolerated my building in the yard. To community members who have made recommendations. I have been so fortunate to have many people in my life who have helped this become a reality
